A Management Mess

Pros

The technology is interesting, and much of the team is passionate about it. There are some travel opportunities, and the offices are decent. When possible, remote work is allowed, and hours can be flexible. COVID response was strong, with offices shutting down for months before cautiously re-opening. Many employees remain majority remote.

Cons

The management team is flustered, confused, and noncommittal. Priorities are changed hourly and no projects are finished. There is no adherence to any product development process, and nothing is based on any market research whatsoever. Products are pushed forward when a potential customer reaches out directly to the CTO. There are very few middle managers, so upper management is also tasked with overseeing the most entry level of employees. This breeds micromanagement or negligence, nothing in between. There is very little opportunity for growth. Very few promotions or lateral moves. Cost-of-living raises have never been given. People who have left have not been replaced. Their responsibilities have been pushed to others, regardless of qualifications. While most are fairly kind and reasonable, harassment and unprofessional behavior are the norm from a few members of the leadership team, and no action has been taken. There are no consequences for inappropriate behavior, including racism, sexism, and antisemitism. Upper management/advisory board are extremely non-diverse. The benefits are unexceptional, and the pay is menial, and the perks start and end with free coffee.
