Pros

Commission structure and base pay led to a nice annual salary, ability to work from home when needed. I learned a lot at eLend (although no formal training program and very much sink or swim), young, energetic group of employees.

Cons

Extremely cliquey (Including management) as half of the employees are all former employees of BOA, absolutely unbelievable workload - impossible to do all your work in 8 hours, people work off the clock every day for several hours as you were in trouble for doing overtime and in trouble if you didn't finish your tasks, most people never even took a lunch break. You will be under constant stress. Very "us vs them" relationships with underwriters as well as loan officers. Managers are openly rude and negative (particularly in emails) over the smallest of issues.... Minimal PTO. They just did a widespread layoff and let go of many good employees, indicating they may not be prepared for the changing rate market...

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I do apologize that you feel your experiences were poor with your colleagues. Unfortunately it was not brought to my attention until you posted this review, and I would need additional information in order to accurately address the issues that you advise of. AFR is currently celebrating our 20 year anniversary and we are looking forward to many more. Our ability to weather shifting industry climates is driven by our incredible team members and their contributions, and we look forward to continuing to provide world class customer service to both our amazing team members and our clients and their families. Despite rates, regulations and legislation changes, AFR will continue to help families across the country. Sincerely, Corey Dubnoff, CAO

Pros

the salary is good but the insurance is so expensive it takes up a good part of the salary

Cons

this company has very little written guidelines which leads you to research all scenarios. You are expected to get all your work done within 8 hours no matter how much you have to do which is close to impossible. They are always checking to see where you are at and then wondering why you aren't further ahead. The loans come in after being shopped around declined which means they are usually the bottom of the barrel.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you took the time to explain your experiences with us; we are always seeking feedback and looking for ways to improve. AFR continually seeks to provide the best resources available to our team members. As a team, the Underwriting department reviewed the re written guidelines and felt it best to go direct to the source. Unfortunately, this type of scenario fact finding may initially be more time consuming if you are not used to it. In reference to underwriting, the role does involve researching scenarios via agency guidelines. For our new underwriting team members, we provide an initial time period for the team member to receive fewer files per day while they adjust to the new role. In addition, when you start your AFR journey, we provide a full one on one training program, a mentor, a team leader, a scenario desk, access to mid-level and upper level management and then some. We take great pride in giving our Underwriters plenty of support. We are sorry that you did not feel your experience was good and we do appreciate your time in sharing your thoughts and experiences with us. We wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. Thank you, Corey Dubnoff CAO

Pros

Ability to work from home. Paid vacation. Flexible schedule. Friendly co workers. No Other pros to mention at this time.

Cons

Multiple layoffs in one year. Partners stated there would be no more and then proceed to lay off again and again. No accountability for poor loan turnover. Loan officers take no accountability for bad applications and rely on operations to fix it all. If numbers are not achieved then operations will be blamed. Where was the “family” environment? Only recognized sales and not the supporting staff.
