Pros

Management tries to create a good fun culture, cars are in good condition and priced well

Cons

Sales Comp plans can change in an instant with no warning and this kills the morale. Last pay-cut was 30% cut. Sales people may work days off to keep sales pace at an acceptable level

We do recognize the challenges of working in a rapidly growing company - and it is difficult at times to design long term compensation structures that remain in alignment with business strategy when our sales and sales team are both growing at a very rapid pace. This is why we try to really explain to potential new tribe members that in order to be happy and have success, you will need a high tolerance for change. However, we are one of the very few automotive dealers that offers guaranteed base salaries for our salespeople - and those base salaries make up an average of 80% of our teams' total earnings. This should help to minimize the impact of pay plan changes because they only affect around 20% of sales compensation. So a 30% cut in bonus structure doesn't affect the 80% of pay that is base salary. Since the last plan change, over 50% of our team has actually made more money with the new plan by the 2nd month in effect. I encourage you to talk to those having success and perhaps talk to your sales leader about how to focus on areas that align with the business model and will improve success under the current plan. Thank you for your candid comments! Brandi B.

Pros

The staff is amazing and are a lot of fun.

Cons

There is a sign in the lobby that has, "no bait and switch." In big letters. This is only for customers. They will tell you there is a lot of oppurtunity to make great money. Once you finish training they lower your earning potential by 45%. You will work long hours at a grueling pace for the same pay as a Retail employee. If you have a family to take care of do not apply to work here.

First, I want to thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your frustrations. While we recognize that having bonus structure changes can be frustrating, unlike most car dealerships, we provide a competitive base salary and health care benefits that provide stability not often experienced in the dealership world. We provide paid training to all Customer Experience Officers, and usually they've had no experience in auto sales before. In the past year, we have gone from selling about 250 vehicles per month to close to 800 per month. When a business model changes and grows that fast, we have to make changes that align with the new circumstances. However, we do hear you and are making every effort to minimize impact of change as we move forward. This is definitely a company where right now you have to hold on and embrace change because a lot is happening at a fast pace. But that should signal a positive outlook for the future, hopefully, and boundless opportunity to grow into different positions within the company (like so many have within the last year). And please feel free to reach out to Geremy (your VP Sales) or any one of your sales leaders, who have all worked their way up through the CEO position. I think they could be a great source of perspective. Thank you again for your time and feedback. - Brandi B.

Pros

There are no pros to name of at this time, but it is a requirement in order to post the review.

Cons

No respect for the salespeople. They will run you around, give away your deals (unless you come in on your off day), tell you that, "Anyone can sell these cars," and just when you get comfortable they will change your pay. You will need to dedicate your life to this job to meet your goals. However, if you don't (and they like your personality) you'll be promoted to finance manager, so the keys to success are: get in good with the managers, be terrible at sales and receive your promotion. This company is not all it is hyped to be. You have been warned.

Yikes! Ok. I'm going to respond similarly to another review that hit on some of these same issues. We realize that most companies recognize, reward and promote based mainly (or solely) on performance measures. However, here at driversselect, performance is just one of the considerations for promotions and recognition. If someone is achieving results without living, supporting and upholding our core values and purpose, a promotion will not be recommended. We realize this can be discouraging at first, but hope that the end result of a culture that fosters care for our customers, fellow tribe members, vendors, suppliers and community will help align us all on this practice. In reference to the statement that "anyone can sell cars," we believe that it doesn't take much to sell a car when you lack transparency, care and concern for creating value for the customer. The challenge is in selling cars with high standards, ethics and commitment to caring about the needs of others over mere personal gain. Also, it is quite difficult to get a job at driversselect. Once in and trained, we usually like to keep our great talent around. Sometimes we realize that they are underperforming in a certain area but we see that they will really flourish in another role. We have invested in these great hires and we owe it to them and to ourselves to try to find the best place for their talent. I hope this provides some needed clarity. Also, please know that you can talk to your manager directly about any frustrations you may have at any time. Thank you - Brandi B.
