Pros

Nice buildings in a nice part of the city. Occasional free lunch

Cons

There was a very hostile work environment. There is no life/work balance whatsoever. There is terrible staff morale. This is by far the absolute worst leadership I have ever suffered through, and the property management side of the company is more like a dictatorship. It was professionally crippling to work in an environment of fear and intimidation. Employees at the two properties were treated like worthless minions. Micro-managed with no trust or respect. At a company where there was more than 100% turnover in a year, team building was impossible. There was always a constant threat of being fired . No matter how badly you need a job, pass on working here. You will either be fired or so miserable with the 11-14 hour work days, that you will quit. And overtime is regularly not approved, even after the hours are worked. Over 20 people were gone in a year, and almost all of them were good, hard working people. You'll give your heart and soul to this company, and be miserable.

Pros

Unfortunately all of the negative experiences that I had while working for this company do not outweigh the good. I have no positive feedback to give out regarding this company.

Cons

If you have landed on this page to read reviews about this company it is likely that you are considering an opportunity with Zocalo Community Development. My advice to you is to do your homework about this company before accepting a position with them. Ask your trusted colleagues in the industry their thoughts about this company, read these honest reviews from past employees, when interviewing the hiring manager ask why there was such an astronomically high turn over rate in 2014 (and in years past) on the operations side of the company. If the response is something along the lines of, "not everyone is a good fit for Zocalo", you are not getting an honest answer. I urge you to dig before being enticed by the healthy salary that you will be offered. While working for this company I was so unhappy that it began interfering with my personal life. The day that I no longer had to go into work for this company it was as if a huge weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. The Leadership within this company treats their employees as if they are disposable, writes their employees up for just about anything, micromanages each and every employee and has no faith whatsoever in any of the intelligent employees that were hired for a reason. If after reading these reviews you are still considering a position with this company, ask yourself these simple questions to aid in your decision making: -Do you enjoy be degraded by your superior? -Are you okay with being micromanaged? -Are you willing to put yourself in a work environment with no level of trust from your supervisor? -Are you okay with accepting a position that will make you utterly miserable inside and outside of work? -Are you available to work mandatory OT, whether or not you are able to? -Are you okay to work for a company that has a revolving door of employees? If you answered no to even just one of the questions above, then this company is NOT for you. In fact, this company is for no sane person.....unless of course you enjoy feeling miserable.

Terrible leadership on property management side

Pros

The development side of the company seems to be well run. They develop incredible buildings with lots of great LEED qualities

Cons

The management side of the company is very poorly organized and run. If you like to be micro-managed then this is the company for you. The management side director specializes in micromanaging the employees and runs a very low trust organization. The leadership is poor and often demeaning and very negative. This company does not promote forward thinking or creativity. The company culture is negative and the work life balance is poor.
