Pros

Although it varies by manager and team, YRC generally has a good work/life balance and the day to day workload and stress level is reasonable. The Overland Park location has a really nice lunch area with a full cafeteria. They also have an onsite fitness center for employees who want to use it.

Cons

In the last 10 years YRC has only given out raises/merit increases twice, and then it was only a 2% across the board increase, no matter how good of a job or how highly you've been rated by your manager. Despite this, the company has been spending obscene amounts of money on projects of questionable value such as building a replica of a truck dock complete with heavy machinery. Given that they are building this replica right next to the company's mission critical data center, the vibrations from the heavy machinery pose a risk to the data center which could put the company's future in jeopardy.

Pros

This is an opportunity to gain management skills. Some of the people are pleasant to work with. This experience will look good on your resume for your next job.

Cons

During the interview the position was sugar coated, it sounded much better than it actually was. The atmosphere was extremely negative. While being introduced to the staff, the majority would give their name and then say something negative about the company. The amount of training I received was completely lacking. I was left alone numerous occasions without proper training. Other cons include exposure to the elements during majority of your shift, whether it is 100 degrees or negative 15, working on holidays- all holidays (if your shift falls on a holiday you are working it), working over nights (you will work X weeks days, then X weeks nights, then switch), as a trainee I worked 10 hour shifts (12 hour shifts for permanent hires) (this did not included the meeting everyday before the shift and the discussion with the relief supervisor after your shift to update them.) There were numerous times that I would see dock supervisors work their 12 + hour shift without a lunch because they were so busy that they could get away to sit down and eat. During the before shift meeting there were times that the supervisors were told that they needed to hand out five write ups in one shift. They were then told if they did not give the write ups they would be given one themselves. This caused unnecessary hostility between dock supervisors and dock workers.

Pros

I enjoyed working with new prospects and converting them to loyal customers. It provided outstanding training program and some of the best co-Workers you could ever hope to work with.

Cons

Not really any wife or I could find.
