Pros

N/A but I have to put at least 5 words here.

Cons

This company does not care about you. One example is the structure for raises during annual reviews. If someone doesn’t meet expectations, they don’t get a raise. Understandable, but then why are they still working there? If they meet expectations, they get a 2.5% raise. Yep, if they’re doing a good job they don’t even get a raise to meet the standard cost of living. If they exceed expectations, they get a whopping 3.5% raise! There is a catch though. Each department has to keep an average of only 2.5% so even if your entire department is doing great, you’ll still get a pitiful raise anyway. On top of this, they have incredibly expensive health insurance premiums and this past year they went up by 7%. Let’s do the math: the cost of living in Denver goes up each year by about 5-7% and the health insurance cost goes up by 7% but Western Paper is only going to give you a 2.5% raise. Who is getting screwed? EMPLOYEES. Who cares? Western Paper sure doesn’t. When you’re hired they say they have these great bonuses and you can get 10% of you annual income in a bonus. THIS NEVER HAPPENS. I asked around and to everyone’s memory, the company has literally never given a 10% bonus. They’re liars. Of course this doesn't apply to Sales because they're the company favorites. They think everyone else doesn't matter as much as sales and they make that very clear every day.

I'm sorry your annual review did not go as you had hoped. Respectfully, I have to disagree with many of your comments. Western Paper does not have a merit increase guideline of 2.5%. We DO work hard to provide fair and equitable reviews and increases, and we DO provide an opportunity to earn up to an additional 10% of your normal pay. (The target pay out is 5% of your pay, and on an average, the company pays between 6 and 7% each bonus period.) As it related to working and living in Denver, you are right that it is getting more and more expensive to live in Denver. As with most employers, we do monitor the job market, and adjust base pay rates as needed to work to keep up with the changes in the cost of living. AND we provide an opportunity to progress and promote in your career field that helps you achieve raises that are larger than a normal, annual review. As always, if there is a specific concern, it is always best to reach out to one of the leaders at Western Paper to discuss it. We are all available and want to hear about your challenges and concerns so that we can address them in the best way for you and for Western Paper.
