Pros

-Work/life balance -Flexible work schedule -Office location -Stability -Virtually impossible to get fired due to poor performance, so it's very easy to settle in and coast

Cons

-Unqualified and underperforming employees given too much power and influence over the company as a whole and on projects they have no business being on -The majority of the company is living in the stone age and doesn't care much about quality -Some employees have too much ego and are reluctant to learn new things or take advice -Poor inter-department communication -Employees that make an honest effort to improve the company are often stifled by politics and poor decision making by management -Upper management is out of touch with the realities of modern software development -Company has no definitive vision -Nepotism -Mid-low tier health insurance

The small local swamp of friends

Pros

Definitely this is a good place to start or finish your career.

Cons

1. No matter how well you work, this will never be appreciated. They may pick up your miserable bonus and not explain the reasons. 2. This is like a Titanic which only had three engines, this company has a very restricted number of clients. It's a fragile world based on magic and people. Unfortunately, they don't value people, they only value their friends. 3. This is a political place of friends where only political capital is valuable. Director #1 has some problems with director #2. Question: How to solve the issue? That's right! We only need to give one of the friends the position of director #3 and put him between #1 and #2. Bingo! Director #4 a little bit lazy to work (the friend of CEO as well?), and provide to the client ineffective and hard to support solutions. But, that's fine! Engineer #1 may work on project #12 many years and it will never be finished because of the absence of political capital, but Engineer #2 will get a promotion because he is a friend of director #1 4. This is a ship without the captain and without course. CEO where are you? Hey Vail!, Amazon is knocking in the door of your clients. Are you hearing that??? Sell your business before it's too late. Unfortunately, I just wasted my talent and time at this company.
