Unity was a great place to work 3-4 years ago.

Pros

Pay is decent, excellent 401k matching. Coworkers are great.

Cons

Micromanaged from entry level to director position. It is an unhealthy working environment. Huge bottleneck to get tasks approved/completed. Prepare to be scolded when you can't meet unrealistic expectations. They don't want to pay for overtime for hourly employees even when understaffed. So they force overtime on salary workers instead. Extremely high turnover, people quit and others get fired without notice. Condescending upper management. Software crashes everyday. Unrealistic expectations with limited resources available to staff.

Pros

Extremely bold president who is charismatic and inspiring leading a storied college - now nascent university - to new frontiers. Very much a force of nature. Everyone there is dedicated to the mission and work incredibly hard. Worked with some wonderful, intelligent colleagues. Depending on if you fit the culture and management style, there is potential for rapid career growth.

Cons

Nearly always felt we were building the train tracks while the train was actively baring down on us. Direction could change on a whim, and often, leading to real ambiguity as to your role over time. Micromanagement at nearly all levels, especially from management to upper management. Definitely a move fast and break things atmosphere, but be careful because breaking things includes you. Upper management very focused on their own careers to a detriment and often burn through subordinates. High turnover across position levels. Unsure if president is a part of this culture, or if those in the leadership inner circle are just such good sycophants that he is kept unaware at the ground level. I want to believe the latter. Needless to say, as president, he bears responsibility for the perpetuation of this culture.
