      Great Science, horrible atmosphere

      Pros

      One of the best reasons to work at USAMRIID is the chance to help your country; the overall mission is very important and relevant. The science is interesting and provides opportunities to research subjects that exist in very few other places.

      Cons

      Gossipy work environment, very clique-ish. Management is horrible - supervisors have no managerial experience (or talent for it) and often don't have the science skills to be in their position either. Retaliation is rampant. People complain about serious issues, but nothing ever actually changes. A lot of favoritism.

      Unique research opportunities interested in bio containment environment

      Cons

      Management and organization is inefficient and disfunctional as a whole. The individuals in charge make things up as they go nd waste tax payer dollars. They also promote a toxic atmosphere where career growth and progression is limited to a selected few.

      Can do some extremely unique science.

      Cons

      The politics here are horrible, people that have been in charge are in charge because they have been there forever (many of them live up to the government employee stereotype). Management is lacking, after spending 1 year in industry its easy to see that USAMRIID's biggest problem is poor management. Without a strong leadership throughout, some of those in high positions use employees as pawns, which lowers morale.
