Corrupt Culture

Pros

Some leaders do care, There is some flexibility, depends who you work for. Pay will only be good if you have a manager that fights for your pay. Benefits are good, could be better.

Cons

Layoffs are coming, Everyone has been living in fear. As long as I have worked for this organization I never understood how we could get so many awards for being such a great hospital when the culture of our senior leaders is so corrupt. Not only have I experienced equality issues, but also harassment by directors and managers. ELR does nothing. Teams are not talking to one another about the massive projects going on around them, So much construction and because of their lack of prioritization, the career employee's are now being laid off.

Awful place to work

Pros

The name carries some prestige in the community. Being associated with a university, there are lots of opportunities for continuing education. Overall work-life balance was fine.

Cons

- Unethical employment practices. The benefits and management listed on my employment offer were not what I was actually offered when I started the job. I was a non-exempt employee and my manager would change my timecard so they wouldn't have to pay overtime. - Your work environment will depend highly on your manager and department. Mine required me to email every time I got up from my desk. Working from home was not permitted for anyone hired more recently than 5 years ago. - Benefits are the primary attraction for many people as the pay is slightly lower than industry average, but they keep cutting the benefits. The pension plan is continuously being eroded. - Very little advancement opportunities in some departments, and no cost of living adjustments or raises for employees that are not union.

Pervasive UCDH Cronyism, bully culture to masque incompetence

Pros

Great benefits if you can survive the bully / good-old-boys culture.

Cons

Information Technology has a pervasive bully and cliquish culture that favors some (white male) over others. The IT organization has a bully/ cliquish culture with an embedded "cover-up" mentality that has resulted in a long-standing (decades-long) organization of incompetence. A good-old-boys club,, that treats minorities differently and rewards those who are willing to throw others under-the-bus to receive favors. This culture discourages open dialogue and reporting of wrongdoing - creating a culture of cover-up and rampant bullying behavior where discrimination against women (especially) is an embedded component. If I could give a minus rating for minorities, I would.
