Circus…a dying circus

Pros

Located in Reston, which was convenient for the commute. Friendships developed with my ex-colleagues

Cons

Belonging to Private Equity. The PE firm that bought us, Siris, is not motivated to invest in capable senior management or in new areas of growth. The company is stuck in legacy business and won't invest in new growth areas. Half of the management was looking for jobs elsewhere, and the other half is frightened to make decisions.

Pros

When the old management was there, thing where really good. The pay didn't match outside companies but life/work balance was good and you where treated fair. It was really fun for 1st 10 years before things started going down hill revenue wise

Cons

The company was bought out by private equity firm (Sirus) in Feb 2012. They are totally cleaning house and firing everyone. Lot of good hard dedicated people that worked there butts off to resolve production problems 3 am on weekends until everything was back up and running where fired. They are cleaning house and basically firing everyone who is in development. I was fired (laid) off after 10 years, just taken to a room for a "meeting" and laid off. Here is your packet, have a nice life. That was a pretty difficult experience. When you work you ass of for a company, your system runs good and over the course of my tenure there, my system easily brought in over 100 million dollars in revenue (gross) for the company with a 40 percent profit margin is not bad. Doing the coding, production support and everything for a 4 person development team is not bad. But they laid off the whole development team (in the course of year). They won't have your back and will treat you like dirt and then dump you when you have a "meeting" you don't expect.

Getting Worse

Pros

Nice people to work with, usually interesting work, some flexibility in working hours.

Cons

A lot of key members have left, and everyone else is expected to pick up the slack with slim hopes of those members being replaced. Compensation is mediocre and advancement is unclear at best, my compensation over 5 years and 1 promotion has not kept up with inflation. Despite having a job that could be done fully remote I'm still required to go into the office 3 days a week and I can't have both Monday and Friday as my work from home days. There's just no trust in the employees. Additionally the health care is bad and has an outright ban on transgender healthcare. Being purchased by the Koch Brothers seems to have really exacerbated everything.
