Pros

Health Insurance plan is pretty good. Great coworkers.

Cons

Extremely stressful work environment. You will have to deal children struggling with severe behavioral issues, which is part of the job. However, the company does not compensate well. Management and administration doesn't seem to care about their employees. No breaks. You will have to work 16 hour days. Work holidays. Agency talks about the importance of self-care but doesn't deliver. Employees getting injured. Lack of support. Extremely high turnover rate.

We appreciate your comments. There are a variety of factors that keep people employed at Sarah Reed, and one of them is the support of their coworkers and work teams. With several sites and programs throughout Erie and surrounding communities, employees will have different experiences with regard to the behavioral needs of the children and adolescents being served. As a result, compensation and work schedules also vary by program, with something to meet each employee's needs. We agree that work-life balance is critical, and have made solid steps to improve the pay scale, and add positions to better support staffing.

Pros

Sarah Reed provides an excellent work-life balance, supportive and collaborative team environment, opportunities for movement/promotion within the organization, ongoing training and outstanding benefits. If you want to work for an organization that is truly making a positive difference in the lives of chidren and families, then this is the right place for you. Your coworkers/collegues will be professionals with service hearts. We work together to provide a safe, caring and supportive environment for our clients. It's a unique place to work that leaves you with a sense of pride at the end of the day because you have had the opportunity to help. Sarah Reed is the longest standing social services organization in the city of Erie and it's expanding. That means there will be more opportunities for employees to grow their careers. Great place to work!

Cons

As with any non-profit, Sarah Reed strives to increase minimum entry rates for direct care positions. They have made progress with this at the residential facility and that positive change will probably continue into other programs. They have listened and are responding, so that is great! Direct care positions are high-stress jobs, but there is a lot of support and promotion of self-care.
