      Great start, but the company is starting to lose its way

      Pros

      Extremely talented writers and editors who are committed to putting out the best content in the industry.

      Cons

      The main goal originally seemed to be publishing outstanding stories. Now it seems like the only concern is gaining new subscribers and there is a degree of distrust in the metrics used to gauge performance. A massive reorganization in 2021 was handled in a way that didn't make sense to a lot of the workforce.

      Founders are tech bros that don't care about the people who actually work there. Treat you great to get you to sign on, get your audience to subscribe, then dump you when they've gotten peak value from you

      Great when it started. Miserable now

      Pros

      Majority of the editors and writers were fantastic people professionally and personally. In its first few years the company was a wonderful, supportive place to work with astounding loyalty. Had a relatively blank check to pursue the projects and stories we wanted.

      Cons

      Dozens of editors were stripped from their jobs when they company reorganized and pivoted, and the company pivots all the time. Is that what you want, potential job seeker? Writers frequently dumped. Upper management folks were extremely dishonest to put it mildly. Unapproachable. All the people who were mistreated - it was cruel. They grossly underpaid, which I realized when I got a salary offer from my next job.
