Abusive environment and overworked staff

Pros

They are fair with staff in that they happily whip their good horses just as hard as they do the bad ones, whether they deserve it or not. The salary is OK at best. The benefits are very good.

Cons

Inspectors and engineers have recently unionized - that should tell you a lot right there. The CEO and her VPs are grossly unaware about the role of a regulatory authority. They show very little, to no respect towards Directors, Managers and staff. Emails from senior leadership are often threatening in nature. They have lost a good number of talented and knowledgeable people who have left, and are leaving out of frustration; so many are leaving that management no longer post it on their iConnect. The organization is currently undergoing a major transformation. In doing so, they are forcing employees to be involved in the project and expect them to also complete their regular duties as well, on their own time! Survey results of their corporate culture are so bad that they refuse to share the results with anybody outside of the senior executive team, but blame middle managers for the poor results. It used to be a great company to work for under Kathy Milsom. Those days are long gone. Steer clear if you know what's good for you.

Worst CEO Ever

Pros

Dedicated and committed staff passionate about keeping Ontario safe.

Cons

Under the former CEO Michael Beard, the organization lost its focus. He killed morale; lost sight of the public safety mandate; moved the office to an isolated industrial area near the airport; instituted a control and command and paranoid management style; and completely botched an IT project that cost the organization millions of dollars. He was an utter and unmitigated disaster.

Pros

The only pro is their salary even their benefits are trash.

Cons

Zero stars if I could give it to them. This place is SLAVE WORK! NEVER work for them. I left a company I was at for nearly a decade to take this risk at a new opportunity with TSSA with a new HR team. I was under the impression that was going to be a great opportunity for my professional development but was easily proven wrong! (Little did I know). With their toxic work culture right away I was advised to watch out for the HR Director and that she was someone to look out for. I saw all colleagues eating at their desk never taking a break, worried to not look unproductive. There was turnover in their department prior to getting hired, this should have been a red flag! There was looming energy of perfectionism, no team communication and darn right toxic work environment. I was trained for literally 2 weeks and never had a formal sit down with my direct manager as to how I was doing or where to improve. I was let go of after a month of an half with NO explanation. Best advice I can give is STAY AWAY FROM TSSA!
