Pros
- Employees are very friendly. - Comparatively less stressful, good work life balance.
Cons
This will be a long list - In recent layoffs, they targeted people who had informed they are having babies, just so that they can save on maternal/paternal leave! I am sure that this is illegal. Would not be surprised if a lawsuit is coming. But more than that just imagine would you want the risk of being fired at critical junctures of your life, when you need 2-3 weeks of relaxed work load? - Mid and upper management is a joke. These roles are all filled by long timers, who lack vision and they are sticking around because they can't get job outside. I don't have statistics, but Synopsys has very high %, if not the most, 20+ year tenured people. - Company just tries to make working life hell for employees. Like they blocked all mail (gmail etc) and data sharing sites (google drive, dropbox) etc. The reason given was it was security issue and not productivity. Employees believed the reasoning because all news sites, FaceBook was still accessible. Common you can't have security protection against gmail or google drive. Not many companies do it for *security* reasons. - Raises are ok at best. Forget about promotions. - LinkedIn bought the building between two Synopsys buildings. Synopsys's put a badge access gate in between. Countless Synopsys people walk between Bldg 8 and Bldg 1/2 many times a day via the LinkedIn parking lot. Synopsys blocked LinkedIn from using Synopsys parking lot between two of their buildings! LinkedIn had to build a special long walkway so their employees can access their two buildings. Talk of hypocrisy and good corporate neighbors. - Health plans are a joke with high premium - No free food or even soft drink. Only thing free is coffee. No on site amenities, except crappy gyms. And then they want to compete with the Facebooks and the Googles of the world for top talent!! - EDA is a dying space from career growth. There are only two companies, Synopsys and Cadence, not much opportunities due to lack of competition. - Even though Synopsys has 13K+ employees, hardly any one knows about synopsys even in the Bay Area, except that they would have seen the sign while driving on Hwy 237. That tells something about 13K+ employee, $2B+ revenue company. - Lots of politics between different units, field, CAE, marketing and R&D. All finger pointing and no one takes responsibilities. The CEO is not able to rein in these political hacks in spite of all of recent failures.
