Pros

Company is Genuinely making a positive difference for the NHS

Cons

4 examples of how people at Synertec are not valued : 1) recently an anonymous letter was sent to the directors complaining about the negative bullying culture in the work place . All synertec employees found out about this letter via a company wide email directly talking about its contents . While the email said the company didn't condone bullying , I felt like the purpose of the email was to shame whoever wrote this letter 2) you don't get paid for your first sick day so have to either take it as holiday or unpaid leave . This just means that people take a week off sick instead of a day 3) another company wide email recently went out to tell staff that too much company milk was being used and under no uncertain circumstances should people be using milk for bowls of cereal or other reasons than cups of tea . I personally don't have cereal so this wasn't directed at me, but if someone wants to use milk for cereal so they can work effectively surely this isn't an issue ? An extra couple of hundred pounds a year expenses for a company with millions of pounds of turnover . This example just reflects the narrowed minded attitude of the directors. I find it highly ironic because they don't want to "waste" money on milk but everyday you go into the office , directly outside the entrance in the only car parking spaces allocated for the company you get to see the 1000's of pounds wasted on their snazzy cars paid for by their dividends they allocated themselves. 4) if you unfortunately fail one of the company wide tests a couple of times you are at genuine risk of getting fired

Thank you for your review. We appreciate our response now is a couple of years down the line but wanted to now be able to respond - our sick pay policy that you are referring to here, i.e. that we don’t pay for 1st day sickness, was reversed in April 2022. We now continue to offer the same generous paid sick pay scheme, but that now starts from day 1. We provide enough provision for everyone to have hot drinks, including all types of milk that people need; however, managing these levels is tricky across four sites if this is also used for things like breakfast. Now that we have a hybrid approach to working, we want to make sure we don’t under or over buy perishables like milk. We have ample fridge space so everyone can bring in the food they need for the day. Our offices do have car parking facilities, either on a first-come, first-served basis at some sites, or allocated to long serving employees first – this allows us to reward those who have been long serving employees; there are no exceptions for senior managers, those senior managers who do have dedicated spaces are also long serving employees. Companywide tests are something we do ask our people to complete, which allows us to remain vigilant about risks to us as a business, i.e. GDPR, and so we can assure our customers that our people are fully trained on the critical parts of their roles. There is never any message that implies someone is at risk of losing their job if they “fail” a test, instead support and guidance is given by our dedicated Training team where clarification is needed.

Pros

On an individual level the staff are friendly and supportive.

Cons

The company culture and ethos is rotten Incredibly uncompetitive salary and benefits package compared to other employers in the sector Very difficult to meet performance targets Awful office locations for employees to get to Massive shortage of car parking spaces Little or no staff areas to eat lunch or take a break Unsupportive management Penalised for asking too many questions Inflexible working policy I worked for Synertec for almost a year and I can honestly say that I have never worked for such a dreadful company. Ethos & Culture: Quite sad really. Staff members birthdays, marriages and childbirths would pass unmarked. Cards or flowers were never sent around. Even after nearly a year of working there I couldn’t define the company’s culture, it’s just non-existent. Benefits: I was sent a letter outlining my benefits package at Synertec during my first few months. The letter detailed only one benefit, private medical cover. The letter advised that I would be eligible to join the scheme in September 2022, 11 months after joining the company. This is not really an acceptable benefits package compared to other employers. Training: At the interview I was advised that full training would be provided and delivered over a 2-3 month period. My training went on for nearly 5 months and I calculated that I had spent about a month and a half sitting around waiting for training to be delivered or feedback to be provided. After 3 months of joining Synertec I had my first meeting with my line manager, they had welcomed me to the company and were overall very positive. 2 days later I received another call from them and they advised that I was taking too long to train and would have to improve or else they would sack me. These two conversations were completely bizarre and I think it’s very poor management to blame employees for slow training and not even meet with them until the 3rd month of employment. Office locations: As Synertec put a hybrid working policy in place, we returned to the offices in March for 3 days a week. The offices are mostly based on industrial estates. There is very limited parking at the offices and public transport is poor. The interior of the offices is pretty dull and uninspiring. Staff break areas and places to eat lunch are also pretty non existent. I would often see staff sat in their cars eating lunch as there wasn’t anywhere nearby to go and Synertec didn’t provide adequate break areas for the number of staff. Hybrid working policy: Post Covid 19, Synertec put in place a hybrid working policy. At home Monday & Friday and in the office on the days in-between. Whilst on paper this seems okay, there was no room for flexibility, despite being able to carry out the job remotely. I had asked to work from home on an office day so that I could travel from home to attend a family members funeral and was told this wouldn’t be possible. Having to go to the office added an extra 2 hours to my journey which was an already difficult time for me. Management: From the few meetings I had with my manager I was generally told that I asked too many question and they were not confident in my ability to do the job. From the conversations I had with other employees, this was not uncommon. Salary: The framework for increasing your salary from the basic £22,500 per annum to higher increments was based on the type of tasks you had completed. If the specific tasks outlined in the framework were not available to complete, through no fault of your own, then you wouldn’t get a pay rise. Other employees: perhaps the only redeeming feature of Synertec are your colleagues. They were individually very pleasant people. I learnt that by month 6 that 50% of my intake had already left the business. A staff turnover of 50% in the first 6 months is shocking and Synertec really need to take steps to understand why staff are leaving. After about 9 months I received a new job offer which I accepted. I handed in my notice and arranged a meeting with my manager. They were not remotely interested in why I was leaving or if I had any feedback for Synertec. They only asked if I was going to work for a competitor. I had even less contact with HR. Synertec don’t seem to have interest in why staff leave or if they are unhappy. I thought this was quite sad. Overall I would say that Synertec is a 3rd rate employer and there are so many other fantastic opportunities out there.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry your experience wasn’t positive from your perspective; we review our salaries in line with market values and consult with recruitment specialists to ensure we are continuing to maintain competitive salaries. Our benefits package is evolving, and we’ve seen positive changes to our sick pay scheme, our holiday entitlement levels and our levels of flexibility and wellbeing offering - just in 2022 alone. Our pension scheme is generous, we offer a benefits portal to allow our people to make savings on purchases and offer an employee assistance programme. All of this is fully described in the letter you receive when joining. Keeping our benefits package fresh is a high priority for the senior management team to ensure we remain an employer of choice for our people. Staff life events are not ignored but are marked with companywide communications, albeit not birthdays, for which a companywide announcement may not always be welcome. Instead, teams celebrate these on a more intimate level. Training for technical teams does take around 10 weeks, depending on the level of detail needed, and it supported by a trainer and the line manager. This is a combination of eLearning and experiential training, and several factors can alter the time spent training. Salary increases do depend on meeting certain criteria, and these can be discussed at your regular one to one sessions with your line manager who will work with you to set objectives for you to achieve the required elements. Our office space allows for a few spaces to sit and eat food during lunchtime – we would love to be able to offer more social space for our people at some sites, but our current arrangement unfortunately means that isn’t possible. Exit interviews were previously only by request but are now carried out as standard. Our offices are not in town centres but due to the nature of our business need to be situated on business parks near to major transport links.

Pros

They give you wine at Christmas but no party

Cons

There are many cons to working for this company, that it will sound exaggerated. The previous negative reviews are true, Synertec are a truly awful company to work for. They have a history of letting go staff suddenly. They don't take bullying in the workplace seriously. They do not reward their staff when they meet unrealistic targets and instead they find reasons to restrict progression during performance reviews. There is next to no progression available, unless you are family/friends of the exec/senior management. If you challenge your pay you may get fired on the spot. The following morning after a dismissal, multiple 5 star reviews will appear on this site - so watch out for these - its obvious which reviews are fake. On top of this, the biggest issue is that there is zero focus on employee welfare. A very toxic environment to work in that I would recommend people stay away from. Most other companies offer a lot more value such as pay and employee support anyway.

Thank you for your review. Finding the balance that suits everyone with regard to parties is a challenge, this year we decided to fund a meal for every team, which sought to meet the needs of those who would like to socialise and those who feel more comfortable to socialise without attending a party. We take bullying very seriously and do not tolerate any of these behaviours, but seek to create a workplace that promotes a healthy escalation culture where questions, issues and disputes are raised and dealt with appropriately. We do not have a culture of disciplining people who challenge the status quo, in fact we have a induction training session that specifically covers how to escalate issues and this is fully supported by management at all levels. We support the welfare of our people by offering an employee assistance program and both your line manager and our HR team are available to discuss any welfare issues. We are evolving our mental health training at the moment and are just launching a program whereby paid time is available each week to allow staff to focus on their physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual wellbeing. We do conduct performance reviews and our people are given objectives to help them reach the next pay band for their role with the required level of support to help them do so.
