The Unethical Follies of a Faltering Company

Pros

Attractive WeWork offices. Your medical premiums are paid for, though that will be of little consolation when you get hit with enormous out of pocket costs. Hard work not required. Hard work treated with suspicion.

Cons

Firstly, this was the most wildly unprofessional experience of my life, from day one. The only reason I can think this company hasn't been crushed with allegations of misconduct is that everyone except their well-cushioned upper management are too poorly paid to be litigious. Secondly, you should know the company is currently going through widespread layoffs, all of which have been handled without dignity or sense, as if they drew the names out of a hat (for all we know, they did). No one knows what's going on from day to day and that's kind of standard here, only now it's gone from being merely annoying to full-blown chaos. Some are getting "promotions"--but that term means nothing at Survey. You will learn nothing of value in that field to boost your career down the road. Project coordinator, manager, marketing, your title doesn't matter, because everyone has only one job: to assign poorly paid visits to users that are constantly misled, underpaid, and often get their visits canceled because of a rocky relationship with their clients and the stores who don't see their business as legitimate, Finally, note that working here means dealing with misogyny, hostility, and unprofessional treatment on the daily. The fact that there is no HR and no recourse for harassment and misconduct is literally a running joke at Survey. In certain members of management, you may have to deal with a handful of breathtakingly incompetent creeps, most of whom have no experience or education in the fields they manage. The "office culture" at Survey is one of gossip, tone-deaf, inappropriate chatter, passive aggression, and total lack of transparency. The fact that so many ineffectual leaders remain employed in the wake of cuts is a gross injustice, but Survey is a not very diverse or professional or even sensible place; it is a place where connections with the CEO matter more than qualifications.

Pros

Shared office space in WeWork Locations. There's always something going on, free food, cool events, Happy Hour every Thursday, & the WeWork staff is awesome! They really go out of their way to make everyone in the buildings experience a great one & they remember your name as well. There are always vendors and different activities going on like free massages, accupuncture, local food, local coffee & wine tastings. Beer on tap in every floor, Cider on tap & monthly rotating Kombucha. You can work from anywhere in the building if you want to, People bring their dogs to work too. The dogs are fun! As far as being in a WeWork facility & all the perks...it is awesome! But that's WeWork & what they provide. Let's get to the pros of working for Survey.com: 1. work from home if you need too 2. dogs in the office are sweet even though sometimes it's too many at once in a small space, but they are key to the office environment 3. Very laxed. If you don't like to work much or get by doing bare minimums for a very long time while still getting paid, this is your place! You could not show up & they probably wouldn't care or even realize you were gone.

Cons

If you think your role will be something fancy because they give you titles like "community coordinator" or "account manager"...you're wrong. This is really a call center that pays you pretty low compared to cost of living. The only difference is you don't always have to be on the phone because there's the texting option. But still it's the same difference, this is a call center. The CEO is a huge reason why this company is the way it is & you will pick up on that almost immediately. Although, if you let anyone else in the office tell it, he's "so cute in his tailored suits" & apparently really good at commanding a room with his speeches. In my opinion, he just a wealthy man who talks a lot & rambles to no end. Ever met someone who talks circles around things trying to make themselves sound smarter or like they know what they're doing??...that's him. Not to say he's not smart, but it's obvious he's lost. Also, pretty much the same with most leadership in this company. They really don't know what they're doing & will throw their "mansplaining" around because that's all they have. Even when you reach out with ideas. Yup, if you're a woman then beware. There are NO women in upper leadership in this company. Most times when things come down the pipeline it really seems more like a battle of male bravado then an actual direction. They even send emails around with bad language, disrespect towards each other, & tons of nonsensical bs. They use G-Chat (Google Hangouts) a lot among each other. They talk about each other & everyone else across offices... even the reps that do the work for us aren't safe. It's crazy how fake people in this place are. Yet they hang out after work for drinks, date each other & have more drama then a teen tv series! There's no HR. Don't let them convince you otherwise. They do online courses & I guess that counts, but trust that none of the stuff that goes down would if there was HR involved. It crazy that you don't have someone you can confide your grievances without everyone finding out by the next day. They borderline flirt with several legal issues, but cover themselves enough to get by. I can tell you that everyone in the Boston office (HQ) are men, everyone bashes the Charlotte office the employees to no end, & the Portland office come in to drink beer while playing ping pong & to gossip about their tinder dating lives, travels & life in college (with the exception of a few people). They do pay for your medical benefits & at first you think "this is awesome...better checks!" til you go to the doctor & really see what kind of coverage you have. Because you only have 2 options: insurance for Boston employees & then insurance for everyone else. Granted it helped to not have that money come out of my check bi-monthly (pay days on the 15th & 30th of each month), but unless you're in a severe accident or something, good luck meeting at $2,000 deductible. No one really works much at all....bare minimums all the time which makes it harder on those of us who actually care & want to do a good job, but when the majority coasts along, you're outnumbered & eventually stop caring too.
