Lack of Leadership/Disorganized

Pros

Respected by, and tremendous support from community. Volunteers care deeply. Many beautiful animals. They eventually will have a new facility. Strong vaccination program for the animals. Board is strong.

Cons

Very disorganized and unresponsive internally and externally to developing and implementing a cohesive plan to sustain the work of the organization. Many staff have left and the leaders that are left behind provide no support to highly qualified people within the organization. I appreciate not being micromanaged, but this place has little to no management at the senior level providing support or guidance with high expectations and finger pointing when expectations are not met. I've never worked in a place that had so much backstabbing and gossiping that came from leadership . Creates an environment of every person for themselves. Current building is old and lacks a cooling system for the animals. Some animal areas are overcrowded. Pay is low for the skills they request and be sure to question the accuracy of the job/benefit descriptions (not as outlined in my case).

Pros

The job was awesome, taking photos of animals that need homes and posting them to social media, watching them get adopted, is great! Planning events and going to them to document everything. I was excited for the events I helped plan. Extremely good pay.

Cons

Worked there for three weeks. Within that time I transformed the social media accounts and began to see progress with viewers. I was fired because my car broke down and I was getting a ride to work for a week until it was fixed. I was still getting my work done. My first red flag was that my supervisor, who actually wasn’t my supervisor was extremely rude and used me as someone she could pick on when she was stressed. A dog tried to attack me while I was taking photos and I asked her if it should be noted in its chart and she acted like I asked the dumbest question ever. Another thing was every post was micromanaged by the ceo because you weren’t allowed to say certain words or if it didn’t sound right to her she’d make you repost it. It is actually kind of ridiculous how specific she was. You weren’t allowed to bring up the animals past (which is weird because it’s a shelter.. people WANT to know the backstory of the animals..). When I was fired, one of the reasons was that I “am still not getting the language right after three weeks” Like uh… I was never told what to say and what not to say. I was just given the passwords. And the posts were doing great with the community. I am not a self absorbed person, but it is truly their loss that they fired me. Everyone outside of my supervisor was telling me how great I was doing and how the posts looked so much better. But my 22 year old supervisor didn’t think it was enough I guess. I truly hope they do find someone that can be everything they want and get those babies adopted. It was a pleasure while it lasted.

Pros

The animals are the only reason I stuck around as long as I did.

Cons

The animals do not have air conditioning unless they are the rabbits in the lobby. The dogs usually almost always have dirty water. Management is the absolute worst. They don’t care about the employees or the animals just the money
