Pros

Nothing good to share here

Cons

I debated for a while whether or not I wanted to write this review. I decided to follow through in the hopes that I would save folks from the same trap I walked into. I worked at Stuller for a few months before Covid hit. Covid was a convenient excuse for Stuller to axe anyone who: 1. Rubbed leadership/management the wrong way 2. Didn't fall in line politically 3. Was not part of the select inner circle/old guard. Working as part of their IT/digital team was an absolute nightmare. They will proudly proclaim they practice Agile methodology while they fail to implement even the most basic of best practices. The IT/digital team is a bizarre mix of waterfall practices with agile ceremonies sprinkled in. In other words, they are masters of 'Agile Theatre.' Leadership is obstinate, close-minded, and for the most part, inept. But wait, there's more! Their tech stack is outdated, knowledge is silo'd, promotions/titles are not merit-based (politics), and just about every IT/interpersonal nightmare in existence makes its home here. The only thing they can predict is what dates they will "not" go-live with a feature (they constantly miss projections). They even have an anachronistic view of remote work; their official policy is that they are not a "work from home" company -- even for IT. Not only this, they are also notoriously stingy with their compensation. All this being said, there are truly some great people that work here (with good hearts). The problem for the most part lies with the leadership team and select executive directors. If you are looking for a fun/dynamic environment with a chance to grow your skill set, look absolutely anywhere else. You will be far happier and make more money at any number of remote/local companies. If office politics, conflicts of interest, overbearing management, incompetent leadership, 90's software methodology, airport-level security anytime you want to enter/leave the building, and masochism excite you -- then sure, give Stuller a whirl. P.S. They make you take a PI assessment before your first interview. Don't worry, they'll ignore every insight that could be gleaned from said test. It's mostly just a formality for them to pretend they have some semblance of culture/empathy. Stay far away.

Pros

Some coworkers in the marketing department specifically are really great. I also learned a lot here over time from helpful and patient managers and coworkers.

Cons

Having worked for Stuller over 5 years and through the start of the pandemic all the way through late 2021, I feel that the company treats its workforce as disposable. The way Stuller handled its covid response from March 2020 on has been abysmal and hurtful as an employee. They started off with massive layoffs and pay cuts for the remaining employees by bringing down the 40 hr work week to 23 hrs for an extended period of time. Beyond this, they do not allow employees to work from home who have the ability to do so (like those who work on computers all day). They prefer to have their 1400+ employees in the building, even while cases are surging. This is just one example of how stuck in the past the company mindset is from the top down. When there was a state-wide mask mandate, it was not enforced, with the security guards being the worst offenders. Basically, the people in charge of enforcement were the most lax and uncaring about it. I did not feel safe working here during this time, which lead to a lot of extra stress on my end as someone who is high-risk. My experience in the marketing department at Stuller was bittersweet. There were good moments because the coworkers in this department, for the most part, are really great. However, I often felt stifled by the company’s views, old-school mentality, and the general extra bureaucracy. I often felt that Stuller is a company that does not want to move forward towards progress. The 401K vesting schedule is very slow and drawn out here. They match 5% over 6 years. You don’t begin to become partially vested in the employer match until 2 years into employment. Pay here is low. Even by the state average, people are underpaid. For being an “industry leader” and such a successful company, I expected better. We were frequently told about the record-breaking profits and productivity happening throughout 2020 and 2021, yet whenever I approached my manager with conversations about pay increases, I was told that HR would not allow for much. I know they recently raised their minimum wage, but in my opinion, this is only to complete with the new Amazon warehouse moving into the area, whose minimum wage is also $15 an hour. Ultimately, I felt that I was leaving money on the table working for a company that did not make me feel appreciated or fairly compensated. I also didn't feel safe here with covid. They also ask you to not wear a mask into the building in certain areas so that they can use facial recognition software on you, which to me is unsafe and unnecessary. This along with having to go through metal detectors every day, random full-body scans, bringing in transparent only bags…it’s worse than dealing with TSA every single day of the workweek. To me, it’s all too restrictive and you feel it.

Pros

-The people. Your coworkers become family and are incredibly talented. -Stability. The company has been around for 50 years and continues to dominate. -Exposure. You can gain a lot of knowledge about a lot of areas of the business if you proactively pursue learning.

Cons

- Favoritism. If management (c-suite) likes you, you propel quickly, if they don't, you will hit your ceiling equally as fast. Has very little to do with skill. - Zero Flexibility. Expect you to be available at all times and offer no options for working from home. - Compensation. Standard yearly raises for performance are abysmal. Employees resort to counter offer situations to get a respectable bump in pay which results in the company questioning loyalty. - Inefficient. Meeting heavy culture with multiple presentations which doesn't allow time to execute the plans constantly being discussed.
