Not an Ideal Environment

Pros

The other employees who work there are all nice; there's a good sense of camaraderie within departments

Cons

As far as just physical environment, the building is old-school, with tiny cubes as far as the eye can see and very little natural light. Very dismal place to walk into every morning. The work I was doing in particular was mind-numbingly repetitive, and certainly not what I was told I would be doing in my interview. I'm a graphic designer (with a college degree), and for any sort of creative type, this environment was terrible - and yet they specifically seek out creative types. Outside of that, the helicopter managers are a pain as well. I'm a very hard worker, and still I felt paranoid of being publicly scolded for doing something wrong (like looking at my phone to see what time it is...no cell phones allowed). Upper management is definitely focused solely on output - not employee happiness or comfort at all. But I guess that's what pays the bills, right?

Pros

Increased my efficiency with multi-tasking, gave me more confidence in my abilities to overcome adversity, taught me to not be so sensitive to criticism.

Cons

Protocol for everyday tasks are antiquated (ie - the filing system has not upgraded to being able to be accessed on a server which makes the quality control process never-ending, order entry system is not user-friendly or intuitive), office space is entirely grey and falling apart, human resources is non-existent (ie - preferential treatment and favoritism is made obvious, over-time is expected without adequate compensation, training program for customer service has zero structure and is therefore ineffective, mistakes are not used as opportunities for constructive criticism, rather the employee is reprimanded and humiliated).

Job, Not a Career

Pros

Steady income? Some vacation, and benefits, but they are far from good.

Cons

Most of the employees have been there less than a couple years. The review stating employees have been around longer than 10 years is a joke. I was there just shy of 9 years and was one of the seniored employees. If you have other options for employment, avoid Stouse, this is a job not a career. The micro management is unbearable! They act like you can't do your job, when they have no idea what you do. The office is outdated and dirty. It is impossible to get a vacation day near a holiday. The pay is a joke, you can make more in retail or food service. The quarterly bonuses are a joke, most of the time it was nothing or $60. There are signs on the bathrooms that state "Do Not Wipe Anything on the Walls" and a sign in the atrium "Do Not Put Food Or Trash in the Planter, if these signs are needed, you may have a personnel problem. You must clock in on time or 7 minutes early. If you click in 1 minute late you get written up. There is no trust! Saturday overtime happens from time to time with a days notice, this is unacceptable, management should be be able to control this through other means. Fox News is played constantly in the lunch/break rooms, it is very clear who this company supports. Stouse is currently owned by an investment firm that is only interested in making money. Outdated technology, the graphics department was using software and computers from 2008. The culture is horrible, and given the incredibly high turnover it is hard to foster one. Most employees are hired directly out of college and only last a year or two. There have been multiple cases where someone left after a day. This is a very negative workplace.
