CIO fosters toxic workplace environment

Pros

There are some amazing people that are a part of the IT organization. They know their respective lines of expertise better than anyone else in the business. I believe the CEO really cares and is open & approachable by anyone in the firm. They have a global presence and you get exposure to many different regulatory bodies, markets, cultures, etc.

Cons

The CIO will scream at you if you do something wrong. She will text / call you at all hours of the day/night with 'issues' that are not real issues. She has to be center stage on everything and has to be involved. All of the previously strong / good leaders have left, and she is now surrounded by 'yes' men/women that only agree with her & tell her what she wants to hear because that is how they don't get screamed at, and advance their careers. She will artificially push down annual review ratings, resulting in every staff member in IT getting a reduced bonus amount even after working like dogs for the previous 6 months to accomplish business objectives. (Oh the firm as a whole grew from Fortune117 to Fortune48 in that same time period) If she doesn't like you, even if you're doing your job, she will orchestrate your release from the company. Always have all communications in writing. She will gaslight you into believing that she has your best interest at heart, when in reality its in her own best interest to keep you down, grateful that you have a job. They are pushing everyone back in the office because 'culture matters' and 'this is how we work best' even though we grew and delivered significantly while fully remote.

Leadership issues

Pros

The employees who are contributors are great. They all want to perform at their best and have good intentions. I would consider the pay above average. I would consider the benefits as average.

Cons

The Director and above leadership are micromanagers. They claim to provide employees with the tools needed to perform their jobs and think on their own. This is not the case. They constantly scrutinize the employees and they have little to no autonomy in their roles. Employees are not allowed to make decisions or take ownership of their tasks and are disengaged and demotivated. When working with leadership, they provide detailed instructions on how tasks should be done, leaving little room for employees to think critically or find creative solutions to problems. Leadership monitored and criticized. This lead to low morale among team members. Employees felt that their leader lacked trust in their abilities, and they felt undervalued and unappreciated. Leadership often spent an excessive amount of time reviewing and correcting their employees' work based on their logic and process. Leadership constantly watched and evaluated employees and created a high-stress work environment. Employees constantly felt on edge, worried about making mistakes or facing criticism.

Pros

I'll always remember the joy I felt when I came to realize that my manager - a grown man - was tracking our GPS locations without our consent or notification during and after company work hours. Like a warm blanket on cool breezy autumn night. 🤗

Cons

I cannot think of a single one!
