Awful pandemic response

Pros

Some interesting projects and good clients, some nice people

Cons

The day the prime minister told employees to work from home if they can (in March), management did not react in time. The COO Sharon Daly actually said when asked that afternoon "well I'm coming in tomorrow!". Therefore, no employees took home any equipment and were not told until late that evening not to come in the next day. Steer continued it's poor handling of the pandemic from that day, with no regular team calls and no equipment sent to staff for months. I know some employees who worked until September without a mouse! Many staff were totally isolated and not spoken to for days at a time. Pay was cut to 80% but hours were kept the same. Obviously because of this morale was low and productivity was low so eventually redundancies were made. Steer failed to protect people's jobs because of mismanagement.

Meh.

Pros

Flexible working, some control of your career/projects, great group of peers to work with, being on good projects/good clients seems to be kinda random which has a big impact on your happiness

Cons

Salaries are kinda random - some people are underpaid and some people are overpaid, performance isn't really taken into account, work-life balance is questionable at times, flexible working also means, as Steer grows people are grouped together for performance so individual performance doesn't really matter. Sometimes there is more of a focus on winning work without regard to stress level, available resources, healthy margin, etc.

Pros

- Super smart, passionate individuals - Friendly environment - Excellent support for graduates - Lots of high profile work, particularly in London - Early exposure to project management and client engagement - Admirable core values and beliefs - Good holiday and pension scheme

Cons

- Lack of agility given it's size - Lack of investment in IT and facilities - Poor transparency around decision making with some questionable investment decisions made - Continuous Review process isn't applied consistently - Career path isn't easy for non-consultancy staff - Very top heavy
