Pros

Awesome community feel. Everyone is really committed to the college's mission. IT is always getting exposed to the latest and greatest technologies. Close to downtown so there was always good lunch spots off campus. Great PTO.

Cons

Leadership got toxic and would bully employees if they disagreed. Leadership doesn't prioritize career development, treats employees as replaceable. Pay is lacking behind industry and there aren't any merit raises or promotions. You only get your 2% cost of living increase...as long as the union contract is active. There are years you don't get any raises. President was adamant about not forcing the Covid vaccine early on, but then retracted. HR is only there to protect leadership and not assist employees with any questions or advice. Leadership hires their own friends for high paying jobs or creates high paying administration jobs out of the blue. Lots of wasteful spending...taxpayers would be appalled.

Pros

Excellent group of IT members, all working as a team dedicated to improving the infrastructure. IT is/was regarded very highly throughout the campus. Access to all available Microsoft technologies for research and possible deployment. Immediate management during my employment was always available to listen to concerns and suggestions for improvement. Most of the campus dedicated to providing top services for students. Benefits decent, salary compensation for experience so-so.

Cons

Was an excellent place to work at, until president (Shibelli) retired. Upper management now has no concept of improving morale. Hired an executive consultant that basically repeated suggestions as their own. "Reorganizations" which "let go" countless people. All hard-working dedicated people who had contributed to the success of the campus for decades. Most people work in fear of not having a job the next day. State funded position salaries not comparable to real world. Salary range not always based on experience but on degree. After seeing the "reorganizations" devastate the campus and our team, I left on my own accord. Was accepted to the first place I applied to with a 15k increase in salary. Everyone raves about my expertise and professionalism, it's nice to be recognized for a change. Friends still working at STCC say it technically took two people to replace me. Shortly after I left, a few other key core people left as well. What does that say?
