Pros

Generally a mature and experienced workforce, very supportive and trustworthy. Company recruiters and managers are experienced in hiring and have assembled a great team. Smiths goals are ethical, meaningful and achievable albeit challenging so there’s very little questionable business practice. Team is happy performing daily tasks.

Cons

Many online sources of information all unique and not often connected. Some over the top security protocol affecting productivity. May include an uneducated specialist or two giving atrocious technical advice.

Pros

I have encountered a lot of good people at Smiths. The people in Operations are hardworking and knowledgeable in their tasks, friendly and helpful, too. The Research and Development people are creative, good problem solvers who are well versed in their field. Health, education and other benefits, which the company provides, I would also rate favorably.

Cons

However, most of what is good has been squandered by management. Their narrow vision of the company has prevented diversification and limited growth potential. The focus on the accounting numbers and on automation is reductionist. It reflects a lazy, withdrawn, negatively elitist, attitude by management and has cost the company more than it can recover. And as mentioned before by others, the rate of pay is, to put it mildly, disappointing and does not measure up to the value of the efforts involved.

Not for field service

Pros

pay is ok. Everything is great if you work at the HQ locations.

Cons

If you are a field service technician, you are dirt. 80% or more on call, no rest. Forget about having time for yourself. You are dirt that the company walks on even though field techs are ones that are barely keeps this company afloat.
