Pros

Can't think of even one. Swanky office and timely salary. Perfect destination for sycophants.

Cons

To begin with, it's a very very negative work environment. Almost everyone is always looking to complete their 9 hours and go home. Senior management has absolutely no clue about how a company should be built. Experience, talent, competence, creative thinking, etc. are appreciated only if you know how to suck up to the right people. It is basically run like a primary school where the CEO is the principal, the management are teachers, and everyone else is a schoolkid. They even have a policy that you can't communicate with others in your native language. The rationale given by the management is that it causes groupism. For me i felt that such arbitrary and whimsical policies only demotivate employees who come in with lots of motivation. The CEO will give you a proper dressing down if you are ever found uttering words in any language other than English. Hence, people are mostly too scared to talk to each other. The overall work environment is built on fear and unnecessary manipulation using repressive policies. They make you work on alternate Saturdays even if there's no work. The leave credited every month is just 1, so technically you end up working for 13.5 months to get your salary for 12 months. The company focusses more on policy compliance than employee productivity, which is understandable because the current CEO was once a real estate salesman. There is absolutely no feedback system and even if employees leave within months or days after joining, they don't bother collecting feedback to change things. I completely agree with one of the reviews which said that it is perfect for sycophants. The CEO is surrounded by an army of them who are out to outdo each other in terms of sucking up. For a company that boasts of hiring only the smartest people in the industry, after a very thorough interview and reference check process, they still put you on a 6 month probation. The only people you will ever find laughing or happily chatting are the ones from either senior management or the HR team. Everyone else is just a minion confined to a cubicle dungeon. The CEO is known to be a micromanager who once even scolded a new employee about toilet manners. And that's just one incident. They have even kept CCTVs in the pantry with microphones to record conversations. Hence 90% of the time you have to careful about what you say. The positive reviews available here are most likely fake and written by someone in the management, because every single one of them has a pattern along with a 4 or 5 star rating. They will put you through 7 to 8 rounds of interviews just to give you the impression that it's a world class company, but once you join you will discover that it's no better than some Nike sweatshop in Vietnam. The office is by far the swankiest i have come across in my career, but it is run by people who have absolutely no clue about how quality teams and workplaces are built. The only reason for anyone to join this company is for the money, because the salary comes on time. But that too for how long is anyone's guess because with such bad attitude towards employees i am sure they will be mistreating their customers also.

Pros

I joined SmartOwner after a long run at an MNC, and despite all the usual reservations about joining a small company, I can now say with the benefit of hindsight that it turned out to be an excellent decision. I was looking for a place with more energy, a faster pace of work and ideas, a constant desire for innovation, and a flat organizational structure, and SmartOwner is all of these things. I could walk into the CEO’s office at any time to pitch ideas directly, and no ideas are too impossible to attempt developing into a workable model. Productivity and output are prioritized over qualities that usually end up being important in MNCs, like networking and projecting the right image. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the use of objective criteria encountered first in the interview process is a common theme here that continues even for the periodic and annual HR appraisals. Like every company, I don’t think this place is for everybody. I personally found the following pros very appealing, and the cons very acceptable Pros · Start-up culture where new ideas are encouraged and fostered, along the lines of a ‘Google 20% Time’ · Strong Silicon-Valley inspired view towards never accepting the status quo and always looking for fact-based best practices, from tech platforms to even the sort of lighting and interior decoration to minimize stress or loss of productivity · A young and dynamic peer-group where people look like they actually enjoy, and are involved with, their work · A consistent theme of ‘self-improvement’. The in-house library and gym are great, and there is time set aside each day to be able to use them. There is even time set aside to pursue external online courses

Cons

· I find real estate can be a frustrating industry because of the number of external factors involved in the successful completion of a project, like bureaucratic red tape · It wasn’t easy to hit the ground running. There is an expectation that one will be highly self-motivated and capable of working without hand-holding or constant managerial oversight · Traffic makes the commute terrible unless you live close by.
