Pros

- Friendly colleagues - Very extensive and well-thought out induction period - Nice office environment - Good non-work activities (massage, yoga, pilates sessions, etc.)

Cons

Despite the listed pros, my stay at Sigma proved to be a mixed bag eventually. Not primarily because of the low salaries and benefits (that's a given in most consultancy companies in Hungary), but rather because of the management incompetence I experienced in the latter half of my stay there. The projects I was assigned to were constantly characterized by unpredictable workload, coupled with erratic customer requests and deadlines that were impossible to meet without working overtime in a regular fashion. Although they promised to handle this, management never actually put a stop to the impossible customer expectations, and never addressed them in any substantive way, even when communication with customers turned very tense. I felt that to them, it was much more important to keep the project contract and spoon-feed the customer than support the worn-down employees doing the work itself. This, of course, resulted in a turnover rate in the project that highly exceeded any other within the company. The working conditions therefore strongly depend on the conditions within the customer project you are assigned to. If you happen to end up in a well-managed one, you are in for a good time. If not, you are on your own.

Thank you for your feedback. Your opinion matters. We continuously work on improving our feedback culture. Being a consultancy company, focus on people is a cornerstone of our company culture. We are glad that you have experienced it in our office atmosphere, the induction program, and after-work activities. We are sad to hear about your project experiences. There are difficulties in every project, and our customers are different. Our flat company structure secures that team leaders and unit managers know and support their teams closely, especially in case of tough customer expectations. This is a teamwork: employees and managers share information, trust each other and escalate problems if any. Please feel free to turn to your manager today or during any non-work activity.

Pros

There are many employees who are passionate and friendly.

Cons

The upper management lacks competence to fulfill their position. To mask their poor performance, they implement workplace policies and framework that makes it impossible to have any form of transparency.

Pros

Flexible working depending on customer.

Cons

Poor escalation process for anything. No HR No proper working environment rules. Low salary No escalation via management in the case of employees working 300/400 hours overtime. Management will not performance manage under performing staff on assignments because they still make money. 100% of focus is on the customer. Employees are left to fend for themselves.

Thank you for your feedback. We are both sad and feel very concerned about your experience. When it comes to HR procedures, working environment, and overtime policies, all our companies inside Sigma Technology Group in Sweden are following the requirements defined in the collective agreement between Almega and the union. For our offices in Hungary and China, we have similar agreements. These regulations set the basis for our personnel policies and are the foundation of our employer offer. Moreover, overtime is very unusual, and we try to compensate customer needs with more resources instead. We have decided to make our organization as lean and flat as possible by giving managers direct responsibility for both sales and HR processes. This helps us to ensure that our organization is hierarchy-free, where managers are always easy to get in contact with and are fully aware of each employee’s situation to be able to follow personal and professional growth. To ensure that we have a transparent escalation process, we have also defined contact persons to contact in case direct escalation to the manager is not possible or appropriate. When defining compensation and salary packages we benchmark ourselves with the industry and other employers to ensure that we have a fair offer. The technical communication area, especially in the consulting business, is challenging though where both customer rates and salary levels are held back. We are working constantly to develop the industry standards and have regular dialogues with the customers to push for the value of information engineering and expert consultancy. Working environment rules, escalation processes, and HR processes are all there and, to our knowledge, followed. Therefore it is important for us to actively improve your situation. For us to be able to do this, please email us your feedback at feedback@sigmatechnology.se.
