      It's a job, I guess

      This place is a mess. It's run by someone who doesn't seem to understand effective management principles. There is little to no training, and expectations are not clear. You are not really held to the expectations anyway. I don't feel that they serve their clients effectively, which is sad, as they serve Bay Area youth. There is a revolving door of staff turnover and the pay is well below competitive. WELL below.

      Good place to get first experience in mental health... that's about it

      Pros

      Easy to get hired in the group home. Working with teens is fun. Opportunity for training and learning crisis intervention skills. Good way to get an overview of the how the foster care system works.

      Cons

      I worked there when it was Sunny Hills Services. Complete inept management. Counselors were treated like crap. We were told "you should all find better jobs and not stay here more than a year"

      Thank you for posting about your experience at Side by Side. Professional development and training is important to us and we appreciate hearing that you valued the skills and knowledge you gained with us in your early career. Residential counselors play a critical role in the operation of our group home, specifically with the young people we serve. We also encourage staff growth and support staff who may wish to move into other jobs that are more aligned with their long term goals.

      Dear Black Community: This agency, formerly known as BAYC is not a safe space for Black Staff. Regardless of the program you are in, (i.e RAFA, Our Space) it does not hold or support Black people. This agency holds a prime example of how "anti-racism" is anti-Black. Both white and Non Black Poc need to be held accountable for the harm they cause Black Staff, given the agency serves majority Black Youth.

We are committed to providing a safe space where everyone feels seen and valued and make every effort to ensure that our culture and norms do not perpetuate oppressive practices. As hard as it is to hear that any of our staff feel unsupported, we are humbled and grateful for the feedback. We’ll be using this opportunity to reflect deeply on how well we support Black staff at this agency and how we might need to adapt our behavior in a way that Black staff experience as collaborative and supportive.
