      Toxic Macho Culture

      Homophobic company, treats women poorly, toxic 'macho culture', does not care about the safety of their employees, felt bad for our women manager who was constantly moved around and belittled even though we had a male manager that was nowhere near as good as her they still thought everything was her fault. Male managers don't do anything about homophobic slurs even when an emplyee asks repetitively for them to stop other coworkers from using them. Have heard in interviews that some people are "too gay" to work there.

      Pros

      Most of the local people that work for Shentel are very nice, humble folks. But many of the senior managers are very arrogant and downright mean-spirited (with a smile).

      Cons

      Being a rural company, Shentel has no competition for its DSL Internet services business (ancient technology). This unfortunately, tends to promote arrogance among certain senior managers. Result is, these top managers have contempt for lower level workers - while they pretend to be good 'ol boys. And the salaries for these good 'ol boys are absolutely outrageous for such a small, backwoods company with dwindling stock value.

      good benefits, generous pto, overall friendly co-workers

      Cons

      This is the most self-inflated management I have ever seen. Horrible communication practices. Way too much office drama. No one knows what other departments are doing or working on which upsets customers because it's impossible to get an answer or update in a timely manner. Everyone is too concerned with making themselves look good so they don't help or develop anyone. They preach teamwork but the environment is everyone for themselves
