Pros

The majority of employees are kind and willing to help. They were all very knowledgeable about the products and for the most part excellent workers. There is a concerted effort made to hire employees who have a good working knowledge of their products and services. Most employees are willing and ready to help customers with problems, attempting to offer a quick solution if applicable rather than waste time and money just to get that extra service check in. There is the occasional chance get handed down unused stuff from around the office, which can be a nice perk. They offer health insurance for all full time employees, and even help cover the cost of this insurance. If you are required to work Saturdays, in compensation for not getting any time to clock out for lunch, the company pays for lunch for all employees and lets them have it delivered to the store. I did have a good time working here from day to day, due to the attitude and respectfulness of the other employees.

Cons

My main complaints about this business stem from the owner, and his business practices. With no formal education in business or desire to further that education this company is run based on the most basic of understanding about business. He bases all decisions on what makes the most money and shows constant disregard for the customer and other employees. First was the owner's inability to let employees, including management, do the job for which they were hired without running nearly every decision past him. If a decision was made without consulting him he would become incredibly angry and insist on putting some new arbitrary policy into place ensuring that he would be notified in the future. With this came the inability for any employee in nearly every department to do their job efficiently, an issue that he would then blame on the incompetence of the employee sometimes going as far as to fire them. I personally had to go to the owner with an issue regarding an item being priced incorrectly (lower than rang up at the register) on our website. When I asked him how to handle the issue he told me promptly that it didn't matter if the customer was upset, and I was to sell the item at the price in the register. I showed him the error on the webpage and he informed me that it didn't matter, and I was always to do this in the future. Less than a month later a customer came to me with nearly the same exact problem; I informed them of our policy and he agreed to pay the higher price. This particular customer was a good personal friend of the owner and went directly to him following being rung out. I was called over, in front of the customer while the owner (the same person who had instructed me to follow this policy) scolded me on the sales floor. When I told him that I was only doing as I was told when I encountered this type of problem his response was,"Well, I would like to know who told you that. We always do right by the customer." As I was there a little longer I slowly came to see just how unpredictable his moods and decisions could be. One day he would be in a fine mood, talking with other employees and generally easy to get along with, the next (sometimes later the same day) his mood could change completely so that the smallest thing would set him off into a temper tantrum. He would yell at employees at the top of his lungs, slam doors, throw things, and slam his fists on his desk out of sheer anger. This constant uncertainty creates a workplace where employees are in fear of speaking up when they feel something isn't right and even those going above and beyond at work are in constant fear of their jobs. You will constantly be monitored on camera by video and audio. No one will tell you this when you are hired, but I have seen it be used to fire multiple people over little things. Be careful.

Pros

The staff from the newest sales person to the most senior manager is fantastic. Very rarely do retail stores accumulate such a knowledgeable and helpful staff. The base pay is not bad for the locality and the hours can be flexible from time to time. Store has lots of electronics and computer items for sale that no other retailer in Tucson will carry. Store is located centrally in town and has ample parking for staff and customers. Staff will truly care for each others' well-being and fulfill their HIRED duties gladly and well. Management will do their best to interpret the wishes of the owner to staff so the task at hand can be accomplished. Employees receive health benefits (if full time employed for over 6 months, part time employees not eligible.) Employees given option to join profit sharing program (if full time employed for over 6 months, part time employees not eligible.)

Cons

While all the staff up to management are top-notch, the owner/employer cultivates an uncomfortable and unprofessional work environment. Sales staff that is hired as sales staff will routinely be made to clean and refurbish customer contributed recycling material on sales floor that the owner wishes to resale in-store or online. While all staff members will work cooperatively to accomplish tasks and duties, the owner, when present at store, will constantly micromanage and become overly upset when the slightest incident occurs or if the work done does not meet the owner's expectations. Owner/employer has been observed throwing tantrums and breaking work related equipment in anger, this puts the staff on edge and cultivates an unprofessional work environment. Owner/employer will take advantage of the "At-Will" employment laws and fire employees for infractions depending on the owner's current mood without formal warning of infraction. Staff is routinely put on edge and must work in an environment of "walking-on-eggshells" when owner is present at store. No advancement opportunities. Any additional duties and/or billets given to staff within company will usually not result in any additional compensation. Management will constantly be forced to make excuses for owner to other staff members for the owner's erratic and unnerving behavior. Owner may not have any formal business training and will seek the fastest, most profitable solutions instead of sustainable growth solutions. All staff is under constant video and audio surveillance and said surveillance may be used to incriminate employees.

Pros

You get to interact with other employees who will talk about computers with you.

Cons

Absolutely everything. The Owner is an absolutely crazy. The company has been horribly understaffed for a long time and he refuses to fix the problem. The owner is absolutely the 100% reason why working for this company sucks. I worked for them for about 10 months, in that time 5 people quit, due to the poor treatment they got there. The owner will never see it this way, as he takes advantage of people's passions and see's it as a privilege you get to work for him. If you like computers, this is no longer a place to do it. The owner is making more and more tasks in the company dealing with his, the owners, personal shoe collection. That's right! SWS Computers is getting into the no-longer produced Nike game! Fun! The owner causes too much stress to the employees. He absolutely disrespects the Manager's position. He doesn't have a clue what it is to experience his company from any other angle, other than his. And he treats himself right, in fact... pampers himself. He refuses to see the issue with under staffing, he refuses to see how his behavior is a horrible thing to inflict on his employees. He clearly has no clue what he's doing and he will take the frustration that causes him on his employees, but he's a coward and will make the Manager do it for him. The biggest con to this job is having to deal with a person who mistreats his employees, like Fred Kasper does. He lied to me, and I'm sure he lies to everyone else. If you have a problem with people like this, do not join his company. He will mistreat you 100% guarantee.
