Pros

The Marketing Department has succeeded in recruiting some good rank-and-file marketing staff, as well as some decent mid-level managers.

Cons

The upper-level Marketing managers run the department using fear and humiliation as their primary employee motivators because they lack real management skills. Every day they nitpick at the smallest matters to divert attention away from the fact that they offer no inspiration, strategy, or vision to do the job of marketing: Promoting the company's people and its strengths. The result is a mediocre, uninspired marketing product AND the lowest morale imaginable among a staff who are afraid to innovate or offer anything but the most minimal, insignificant changes. Additionally, the never-ending unrealistic deadlines on top of the crushing workload and low morale make this a truly depressing place to work.

"Playground Bullies" in Marketing

Pros

Most architects and engineers were hard working. Enjoyed working with some good people and learned a lot.

Cons

Really, STV? You allow bullies to "run" the Marketing Department? Likened to bullies on the playground, who do not work well and play with others, these frauds need to go. Anyone who has been in the workforce for a decent amount of time, will recognize these marketing fakes in a flash. Reverse discrimination by a few in particular who often pulled the race, gender, and creed card, made this place a disaster to work for. How antiquated! (Only very young professionals can work here because they have nothing to compare it to. They don't know the difference.)

Pros

They provide you with first-rate computer equipment and they have a help desk in case you have any computer related problems. The people are really nice. They have a wide assortment of free coffees and hot chocolate.

Cons

I worked as a Proposal Manager in the Marketing Department and it was the worst experience of my life. Simply put, STV is a proposal factory ... they go after every RFP that comes in the door even if they do not have the qualifications to take on the work. They overload the proposal managers and make it impossible for you to do a good job. In one instance I was given a major RFP more than a week after it had been issued and consequently i was given just 3 days to prepare a draft. They do not train you at all ... they just throw you into the fire and expect you to be able to get the work done even though you have not yet been familiarized with the company and its procedures. I was only there for 3 months and when I quit I was told that there were 22 RFPs waiting to be issued to the 6 remaining proposal managers in the NYC office! Subsequently I heard from several STV employees that the company is a revolving door when it comes to proposal managers and that someone quits every few months. I was told that one proposal manager quit on the same day she was hired! STV is such a horrible place that even though I am currently unemployed I would not go back there if given the opportunity.
