A long list of Cons. Trying to list them out chronologically.
1. There is no such policy for HR Induction and Onboarding. No one of them cares about new hire. Even if you are Engineer, they will treat you as a labor. Company doesn't give any time for rest also if new hire is coming first time in Kingdom from outside. Driver picks up the person directly from airport and drops at office. And the person needs to work from the very first day. No rest, nothing..
2. 0% internal coordination between HR, IT & Project team & more than 100% inefficient paper work. Everything Digital is parallel universe thing for them. I waited for more than 2 months to get the all the IT assets & software licenses. They don't want to spent a single penny for anything & force people to use pirated software.
3. Worst Management --> Before Aug'24, company was struggling with financial crisis, But afterwards, management has changed and egoist people joined top management team & made the company's culture and process bad to worst. They stopped to approve the family visit visas, appraisals etc. The main egoist guy calling himself as CEO firing senior managers (those who had taken up the company from bottom to top before COVID) on the same day. Bootlickers to new management are becoming their favorites & getting all the benefits under the table, Due to his unprofessional behavior and arrogance, all the senior and good employees (Saudi & Non-Saudi) leaving the company every month. New Management has shut all door if anyone wants to raise their concerns.
4. Unskilled persons have become managers --> Unskilled people are on driving seats so we cannot expect a successful & timely completion of the projects. Even, Some of them doesn't know how to use outlook and write an email, always passing the irrelevant work and responsibilities to juniors and escaping from their own responsibilities. That much technologically illiterate they are.
5. No Promotions, Reward & Recognitions & Appraisals --> No matter you spent 1 year or 20 years in SSEM, if you are non-saudi, you won't get promotions. You will be engineer only. Inside SSEM, engineers are promoting themselves by putting "Senior Engineer" in their email signatures.
Employees are getting the appraisals after 2-3 or even 4 years. That is also very less.
6. No Career growth & Learnings --> There is no career growth and learning in SSEM. You will get the salary on time that's it. You need to work, it doesn't matter that it is relevant or irrelevant to you. You will get the salary at the end of the month.
7. No clear roles & responsibilities --> Your immediate manager doesn't care about what kind of expertise & specialty you have. They can to use an engineer for non-engineering tasks and vice versa.
8. No direct touch of HR & Admin to Employees --> A new employee need to check and follow-up for Bank Account opening, Iqama registration, Contract Registration, Insurance Registration etc. with HR by his/her own. HR/Admin won't help promptly until you will ask them about the stuff. They take 3-4 months to open a bank account. Until then, you will get the salary in cash. That is also not in single go. You have to go minimum 4-5 times each day to accountant to get the salaries and he looks upon you as if we want to take his money.
9. Saturdays are working days --> Only Friday is week off there and non-saudi employees need to come on Saturday even though there is no work because all saudi employees & other associated partners/suppliers/vendors are having week offs but we don't, we have to come.
They are a lot more to write here in dislike section but I need to stop here. To cut long story short, I would say if you are joining SSEM from a good & descent company for the salary only and don't care much about your esteem and respect. Then you can join them. There is no harm. But if you love the self respect, career growth & learning and keep them on top priority then SSEM is not a place for you seriously. Eventually, you will not be happy and regret your decision as I did.
These are my observations and experience with SSEM so far whatever I have written above. I had a very bad experience with SSEM and didn't work any such toxic company and environment before where licking and other toxicities are more important than your own duties to stand out.
