Pros

-The company has emerged from the financial crisis of 2008 unscathed. * -It has recently been upgraded to A by AM Best. -It enjoys a strong reputation in the industry for being a leader. (5th largest reinsurer by NWP P&C.) -Competitive benefits for educational pursuits. *I should add, despite its strong position after the crisis, SCOR did very little to capitalize on its temporary advantage.

Cons

-The company has not modernized. The company has the ability to turn interesting jobs into mindless data entry. It only takes a few months for you to start hating your job. -It's the company of multiple bosses. You will have at least two people you report to. -Very limited opportunity to advance because everything is political. You have to fight for every small bit of chump change. -The company runs a very lean shop. Low pay, plus few employees to do the task is a huge demotivator. In fact, I've often imagined this was how things are run in socialist countries. Little mobility, class structure already in place, and no matter how hard or how competent you are, you will be stuck in the same place with no chance of upward movement. -Most people you work with will be unhappy. It's not very fun going to work every day and then hearing how most people in the office hate their jobs and the company. -Due to low pay, the company attracts a thin layer of talent. If you have any talent, you will not be there long. And for the folks that are here for the long term, there aren't many mentors to give them any skills that will raise their profile.

Pros

Overall benefits package is great.

Cons

Too many positions in upper management which prohibits you from being able to do your job efficiently. Requiring 3xs a week in office with no flexibility. Technology is horrific. Little to no diversity.

Pros

Good if you are in the actuarial line of work. Salaries and bonuses are worth it for actuaries as well.

Cons

I was there long enough to see how not only was there no diversity and inclusion but how toxicity can be played out ! If you were white your chances of being successful was high. For this reason this was the exactly the kind of people that thrived there or end up with tenure there. Performance based merit is not a metric by which career advancement took place. Do not be surprised if your career advancement discussions elicited responses such "I thought getting a cube with a window would make you happy"! Personally for me it was one of the biggest mistakes of my career which set me back a few years - being on the tech side, and the organization not having an updated tech stack that kept up with the advancements in the industry, ended up being a disservice to me. Alot of this was primarily because of choosing the wrong people in leadership roles who did not have sufficient technical know how and furthermore did not empower people reporting through them either! This we know can be detrimental to any kind of growth. If anything it taught me the red flags I should look out for while choosing organizations to work with. If there are no clear progression paths in place it is a clear sign that the organization does not care enough to invest in your growth. It is not uncommon to find people in the same position for more than 5 years here. Some people dont mind that while some people do. So do your research and figure out what satisfies you workwise, before you sign on !
