Pros

My co-workers were wonderful, genuine people. The company does true good work in the community. Pay is good, not great, and the hours were somewhat reasonable.

Cons

Manager has fired employees with no notice because of personal differences. There are many policies and procedures that are inconsistent with the mission of the company. Any attempt to challenge these problems are met with retaliation and unfair treatment. Hours were long and there are no perks to the job. Benefits are minimal.

Pros

A sincere desire to help people who are homeless and/or addicted to drugs.

Cons

The mission is very poorly managed. For many years, the mission has tried to define a successful program. Unfortunately, they have failed in their attempts. Therefore, they attempt to restructure the program and each time they fire, demote or otherwise make staff changes. The moral of the employees is very low. As a result of poor management, there is back biting, gossip and frustration. Staff can't properly care for people facing hardship if they are not supported nor listened to. Frankly, the people who need to be scrutinized and possibly reassigned or terminated is the leadership. After years and years of problems, it is time for a change.

Pros

3 day weekends. My coworkers as people were phenomenal

Cons

The pay is not nearly enough. The work environment is harsh. Raleigh rescue mission seems to have a superficial understanding of homelessness which is disappointing as an agency that serves individuals experiencing homelessness. Their new life plan is created on the assumption that they can fix an individuals housing with only employment and savings. The reality is it’s a lot more complex. Clients have to quit their jobs prior to coming into the shelter and work for free in vocational training. It’s feels like they exploit their clients. Staff get very little say in what happens and are often ignored or disregarded. Tension between shifts run high. By the time you learn your coworkers name they’ve probably been fired or quit. Turn over is the highest I’ve ever seen. There were many nights I came home incredibly frustrated or disappointed. I feel like Raleigh rescue does more damage to clients than actually assisting them. The culture is very here’s how you should do it vs asking the client what they want to accomplish and how we can walk besides them to help.
