Lacking Communication and Bad Company Culture

Pros

Good place to start your career if you have no prior experience

Cons

There was little to no opportunity to grown within the firm...Once you have been assigned on a project, you are expected to stay there and discouraged from switching to other projects....Leadership ignores staff opinions and requests without trying to understand or communicate with their employees. If you want to move up in the firm, you have to follow everything leadership tells you to do!!! Your experience here at RMA will largely depend on what project and team you are assigned to...If you have the unfortunate experience of being teamed up with incompetent people, you will be expected to carry most of the work and work longer hours (even weekends). The company president monopolizes all of the decision making and refuses to make changes that would improve the environment and culture of the firm. At some point, the president realized how unhappy the employees are, but refused to take any action to address the issues.

I'm sorry you feel that way. We try our best to give our staff an excellent learning experience with room to grow. We provide a variety of jobs and opportunities so our people may gain diverse experience. We have an open door policy and encourage all staff to provide their opinions and submit requests for changes. We take staff feedback seriously and strive to act on requests to the extent possible. We have an employee steering committee that is representative of employees that express interest in participating on the committee. We do not ask staff to post reviews. We try to hire people that fit into the firm's growing and fun culture, and give them room to be professionals. Again, I'm sorry you feel the way you do, and we wish you the best in your future endeavors. I think we can do a better job of communicating via our internal firm and team meetings, newsletters, and more one on one communication so that the misconceptions and concerns you identified may be resolved. We, by no means, want unhappy employees. We have an open door policy and will work on facilitating more communication. Sincerely - Reza Mahbod, President

Pros

This company has no pros at all!!!

Cons

You can do much better in this area. This company has nothing to offer when it come to professional experience. They will offer you a low salary and work you as a slave. They are very unethical and I would advise you stay away from this company.

As one of our alumni, we are disappointed you felt this way. Our Managers and Directors have an open-door policy. It is unfortunate you felt you were not able to express your concerns while employed by us. We will enhance the open door policy communication. It is always our goal to provide our staff with meaningful opportunities to learn and grow. Additionally, employee feedback is always welcome, as continual improvement is essential to the growth of our employees and our company. We continuously review and monitor our compensation and benefits to be as competitive as possible in our industry. Over the past year, our personnel have put significant effort into cultivating and growing our Employee Engagement Group (EEG) to provide meaningful professional opportunities for employees inside and outside of work. The EEG has created a role for an on-site liaison at each remote work site to be sure remote employees feel as much a part of our culture as our in-house employees. We have also boosted our Coaching and Mentoring program to connect with employees when employed and before their first day at work. Given our industry, type of work, and clientele, integrity is of utmost importance. We were confused about that comment; however, we will look at how we can improve. If you felt that way, there is something we can do better. Our leaders are also AICPA approved ethics instructors so we will talk with them about how we may improve our communication in this regard. We also focus on work-life harmony and do not have official busy season minimum hours like many of our competitors. Our industry and clients are demanding and, at times, we have to react to address our clients. Through our efforts, we help bolster federal cyber security and federal financial management. We appreciate your feedback, and again, we regret we were not able to help you meet your expectations. We will continue to learn, improve, and do better.

Good place to start out

Pros

You will be engaged in every aspect of your engagement (aside from billing). Small business culture (everyone knows each other). Annual raises and promotions. Certification reimbursement.

Cons

Overworked through late nights (working till 1-3am is not unheard of), being assigned multiple full-time engagements, and/or working engagements without proper staffing. Company focus is on winning as many engagements as possible but does not hire enough employees to appropriately staff engagements, causing extra stress on employees. Because of the work load, burnout is a real possibility and has caused others to leave. Very little remote work allowed - you will be expected to be in the office most days if not on a client site. Senior management can micro-manage, be passive aggressive, and "my way or the highway." Salary range is lower than other competing firms in the area.

Thank you for your helpful feedback. We do our best to provide the team with the best learning opportunities possible through formal and informal internal and external training sessions, on-the-job learning, and through mentors, coaches, and performance managers. We promote certifications and continuous learning. We do have a busy season, which varies based on your focus area (financial statement versus IT versus performance audit, or consulting), and we try to smooth the fluctuations to minimize the amount of nights worked. Much of it depends on the nature of the work and year-end reporting requirements that gives us a busy season that lasts less than one month per year. Since there has been a change in the labor market, we aren't as challenged when it comes to hiring so we are currently at capacity and not understaffed. However, we acknowledge some challenges related to staffing that the industry faces from time to time. We use a budget and chargeable hours system to track workload to minimize overtime hours. We work with our Employee Engagement Group (EEG) to obtain employee feedback and incorporate continuous improvements and enhancements to better fit the environment. Our salary ranges are higher than many in the industry but vary depending on level of performance using a pay-band system developed based on industry statistics. We are a results oriented firm and certainly strive to reward results through compensation and other benefits. We work as a team to learn from each other and have a hybrid schedule with flexibility. We are moving to the top floor of a brand-new building with amenities such as a gym, restaurants, conference space, and social space for group events. We find many of the folks that strive to grow with us are happy with the office structure we are implementing, however we are open to suggestions and welcome feedback through the EEG or directly to seniors, managers, and above. We think RMA is a great place to start, continue, and finish. We have a lot of talented people to learn from and a lot of opportunity for professional and financial growth. However, we are humble and always looking to improve and learn, as a team, focusing on our personnel who serve our clients.
