Pros

Enjoyed the work that I preformed

Cons

Approximately three weeks ago, a salesman at my place of employment approached me with a rush job he needed completed that day. It involved the use of some type felt material. Each piece of the felt material contained two cuts, which had to be separated and attached together, making one piece. I was to separate the two cuts and glue them together with another piece of the same material, resulting in a single piece. The entire job consisted of two boxes containing 50 sheets. I was unaware that I was working with anything that might be a potential health hazard. Later that evening, I began having breathing and itching problems. The itching subsided, but the breathing problems continued for several days, which, at times, became quite severe. They would come on suddenly, and I have been having problems ever since. I was approached about a week later with another such job. At that time I told my Foreman I could not do the job without some type of protection. He brought back a respirator and a nylon jumpsuit, which I used for completing that job. I was asked a third, and final, time to do another such job. At this time, a Project Manager entered the area with two clients. I told him at that time that they shouldn’t be in the area, as they were unprotected. On February 23rd, I tried explaining to the Project Manager why they should not have been in my work area without wearing a respirator and jumpsuit. About five minutes later the Plant Manager approached me and asked what the problem was. I explained to him that I didn’t think it was safe for them to be in the area without protection and explained my initial and recurring problems as a result of working, unprotected, with the material. His response was, “What do you want me to do about it?” I did not reply, but was angry at his lack of concern and seemingly indifference to the problem. I was transferred to another department that same day, in the same building. Yesterday, I was doing the job, as shown, and as others have been doing it for a long time. The Plant Manager went off on me for no reason. I was very frustrated with the entire situation and was still coughing, even though I was using the respirator. I explained to the young lady that I was working for that I wasn’t feeling well and went home. When I returned to the job this morning, the young lady told me that now everyone has to wear a respirator. I suggested that she also get them eye protection, as well, because I believe that the spray glue I was using also entered my sinuses through my eyes, which caused me to cough pretty much non-stop. Subsequently, the Department Manger came in and told me that I had to leave. I was terminated for being honest about my health issues and expressing my belief as to their causes.
