      Amazing for physicists, awful for engineers

      Pros

      If you are a physicist, this place is amazing. Enormous budgets, lots of talent, lots of freedom - it is basically grad school with much better pay. For physicists (especially ion trappers) this is a 5 star company.

      Cons

      If you are an engineer, don't bother even applying. This company is "science led" and doesn't do engineering. You will get crapped on because you are not an ion trapper. I once saw the president of the company give a guy a hard time because he wasn't an ion trapper. Engineering managers are all physicists who failed up. No one knows how to do product development - it is all cut-and-fit on the fly, then wonder why nothing works. You have almost no chance of promotion. For engineers this is a 1 star company.

      Only good for white men with phd and ion experience

      Pros

      Respected company and exciting science. Lots of great people and no drama among employees (drama comes from management). True unlimited vacation with many managers.

      Cons

      Arrogant physicists make all the decisions and don't listen to engineers. They all have the same exact skillset which is no longer useful in growing the company. Some groups are very poorly run while others are not. There is no cohesive policies. Advancement is a joke. Projects take forever because things are poorly run and communication skills are lacking everywhere.

      "unlimited" vacation claimed free coffee

      Cons

      toxic workplace environment (EE department) with known toxic employees and managers that support this behavior. I filed a harassment claim with HR about continuous and ongoing workplace harassment over my first 6 months and nothing was done for over a month
