Pros

- There are lots of bright and engaging co-workers. - The tech isn't vaporware. - Q has paying customers for its earliest sketch of a product. - Q has the potential to do a lot of good if the goals being described to employees (revolutionizing personal data-driven healthcare) are met.

Cons

- Turnover is 3x the already high Silicon Valley churn rate, much of it involuntary and without warning or explanation. Nearly everyone no longer at Q is better off than they were as employees. Skip the pit stop in your career. - The culture is conducive to overwork with an emphasis on shared suffering rather than actually getting things done. Being visibly in the office the same weekends as the right members of leadership is much more important to your career than working long hours, doing good work, or both. - Visa workers are required to put in 60+ hours each week and are threatened with PIPs and termination otherwise.

We do not comment on individual separations as a matter of policy and it is always unfortunate when there is disagreement on reasons for termination. We can share that based on our employee retention rates, we are tracking well over other similar start-ups and tech employers this year , with an overall 85% retention rate per year. And breaking it down, out of those, we have 7% who were voluntary and 8% who were involuntary. We do practice performance management and also recognize that a start-up is not always a good fit for all folks. Building hard tech in a space that requires solving problems that have not been solved before takes time and is not for everyone. The comment on visa workers is factually incorrect. We are proud of our record of sponsoring employees in their immigration process and visa status is never a consideration in performance management. In fact, the only folks who have been put on PIP this year have been non-sponsored employees. We also only have PIPs if we truly do want employees to get help with a structured plan to turn things around and have seen success where employees on PIP have succeeded in improving performance and staying on with the company in very productive roles. We are proud of our team and the work we do together and want to correct any misperceptions shared.

Pros

We're changing healthcare in a way that will save a lot of lives. There's lots of other great things - world class scientists, serial entrepreneur founder, really great teams, great focus as a company, and a well-defined roadmap. But for me the biggest pro is the vision and a belief that we can do it. Since joining I've watched the company gain more focus, and the vision crystallize with time. The roadmap is fleshed out, and we're looking to continue growing to accomplish our vision

Cons

Always risky to try to change the world. But the free market often rewards risk.
