Medical Scribe more cons than pros.

Pros

Medical/clinical experience. Extremely fast hiring: submission of application to training happened within one weeks time.

Cons

The training was very unorganized, you only had a few days to learn an extremely large amount of information. We were also given a quiz on the first day of classroom training with a very generalized notice of what the focus needed to be. The hiring process is extremely fast but the payment process to register you into the payment system was extremely slow. There is no way for you to look into the system to see when you have clocked in and out or a history of hours worked and they are able to change the times which you have clocked in and out. Scheduling was not as flexible as was stated prior to hire. After being hired we were told to keep our work schedule as permanent as possible and to work your school schedule around work rather than scheduling work around your future semester classes. What you note in your availability sheet will be what you will most likely be working and mostly permanent. You don't have much of a say as to which available days you would prefer to work and there were no options given. They choose your schedule for you by all available days and times noted on said sheet by you, you don't have a choice after that. If you noted you had five available days but hoped to work two and they scheduled you for four shifts according to the sheet; those were the days that you were going to work going forward. Also, working past your scheduled shift happened quite often so if you had any classes after your work shift you will most likely get to class late or not make it to class at all. Even though you mentioned prior to hire that you had class at a certain time which is the reasons why you chose the available times that you did. If you wanted to take time off it had to be notified a month in advance. If you are having issues and you email corporate you will most likely not get a response. If you decide that you no longer want to work there within a contracted time you had to pay a fee to quit. You only get paid minimum wage. Probably another reason why they constantly need recruiting to hire new employees. I suggest finding another way to gain experience in the medical field for pre-med students.

Pros

The benefit of proscribe is that in addition to having a nice line on your resume and letter of recommendation from the company's CNO, you get to have numerable clinical experiences and work one-on-one with a physician. This is a must-have experience for anyone pursuing a career in the health profession, particularly the medical field. Despite the poor training at my location, I've heard that training is excellent at other Proscribe locations.

Cons

Despite the pros listed above, this Proscribe location is not worth working for. The training is difficult and poorly organized, with trainees being expected to learn an extensive amount of information in a short period of time and trainers providing vague instruction for the completion of tasks. The EMR training is particularly poor. Prior to assessment, trainees are only given a short intro video and practice scenarios; the trainers never show the trainees the specifics of EMR documentation. As a result, the VILT training is easy to fail, and the remedial improvement plan is easy to fail as well. If the trainers provided adequate training in a reasonable amount of time, I would say that this is fair, but I believe that this expectation is unreasonable in light of the poor quality of training. Last but not least, you are required to receive immunizations, drug tests and tb tests, and order scrubs prior to training, so failing the VILT or any portion of the training means you lose over $80 on the scrubs alone. Overall, a position at proscribe is a waste of time; you'd be better off scribing for a different company.

Pros

Overall, this is a great company, and you'll have the opportunity to work with a number of different specialties, ranging from primary care to cardiology. If you are interested in going into the medical field, this is a great way to get face-to-face time with patients and learn the ins and outs before applying to medical school. -Great opportunities to work in the field -Opportunities to move up quickly -You'll be ahead of most people on your applications -Your managers often want what's best for you, and in my experience they are easy to talk to and approach when you need something. -Great experience that can help you later in life. A lot of what you learn you can apply to keeping yourself, friends, and family healthy in the future. -The providers that you work with are usually open to teaching you about their field, and love to answer questions to bring more people in. -Hours are flexible, as a lot of us are currently college students

Cons

-You have to, HAVE TO, be good with computers, be fast at typing, quick on your feet, and quick to adapt. This job is a lot of standing and a lot of sitting, but when you work you rarely have a lot of time per patient; you could be seeing anywhere from 3-30 patients in a 4-8 hour day. -It's best to have some medical knowledge before applying, as there isn't a whole lot of focus on it during training, so much as learning how to fill out a note. -This is a minimum wage job and the hours aren't always consistent. If you're really motivated to work, management can find the hours for you. You sign a 6 month contract when accepting the job, so you have to be able to commit.
