Progressa has potential, but rots from the inside

Pros

Being a smaller company, there are some flexibility in how things are done. There are a lot of money to be invested into peripherals and the office space. Company structure is relatively flat, an open office space encourages discussions.

Cons

- a lot of busy work, processes, lacks product development - incompetent technical team leads, condescending and arrogant - no technical leadership, the loudest voice wins - heavy investment on using fancy technology, but software engineering is discouraged - top heavy, disconnected product team - management seems secretive with real company objectives - a lot of talking and internal marketing to cover up problems - below market salary Overall Progressa seems like a company being built as quickly as possible to look good in order to sell, product development is stagnant, career advancement is nebulous. Upper management seem open and friendly, but is defensive on their own agenda, not open to exploring employee feedback. Turnover is frequent.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. You have certainly made some valid points, and I'm sorry you left the company before we could act on the feedback you provided. I understand your frustrations because our rapid growth has resulted in some inefficiencies and challenges, and we are working hard to address these issues. I can assure you we are committed to open, honest communication with all employees. Our management team has an open door policy and we try to personally get to know as many employees as possible through one-on-one meetings and social events. As we grow, it is more difficult to do this with every employee, and so this year we introduced a monthly newsletter, quarterly town hall meetings, and employee engagement surveys. We have taken action on feedback where possible and will continue to do so. I am thankful that you have shared your opinion here so that I and others can reflect on your feedback and make improvements. I wish you all the best and hope you are able to find the right fit in another company. Sincerely, Ali

Pros

Was a great place to work with minimal politics, a relatively flat hierarchy, and each employee had a certain degree of autonomy. Great group of really pleasant frontline employees. A lot of room to learn. CEO has great leadership qualities, and tries his best to get to know every employee.

Cons

5 of some of your best frontline employees in Vancouver have left in rapid succession. It is worth investigating why this is before more of your top talent leave and the company implodes. There are more managers than there are frontline employees. Many of your managers do not even do any work and are creating toxic work environments. Risk Analytics department in particular is being headed by a very incompetent, conceited, and unprofessional individual who plays one employee against another, and using slack as a means to talk behind other people's backs. He is creating a huge mess in the BI infrastructure and blaming his direct reports for said mess. He is texting people at 11 PM and almost forcing people into working on weekends. He would rather hire an incompetent individual who goes around bothering other employees like a pest than promote from within.
