Pros

Free Food, free coffee Relaxed Space

Cons

If you get hired, you will ONLY ever receive minimum wage. Our longest-working manager of 6 years only earned $11/hr before she left. The other managers earned $10/hr. The training is bad, the managers are all inexperienced. You will be forced to cater and deliver to private jets as far as Massachusetts and Lake Placid with NO extra compensation, other than refilling your gas tank on the company card (if you ask), and with NO notice. Jet orders that can be delivered will be. (Jets orders often place orders with less than an hour's notice, at which point you have to go shop for the items, prepare them, and deliver them yourself) The owner will force you to serve up to 80 people at once off-menu for random business conferences, in addition to restaurant customers (again, with no incentive or compensation). If you work there more than 3 months, you will be "promoted" to supervisor without consultation; you will receive no raise, and your additional duties will not be outlined. (You will only be yelled at if something goes wrong during your shift.) You may be scheduled for ridiculous shifts without being asked, such as preparing for and hosting a farmer's market, going shopping for the entire week's supplies for the restaurant, hosting random fundraisers or events at other locations--the job tells you none of this prior to hiring you. You will get NO scheduled breaks. If you want 5 minutes to eat, you have to ask, and you will still be on the clock and asked to work if a customer comes. If the restaurant is "busy," you will be reprimanded for taking a legally mandated break. You will NOT get paid overtime-- the owner will either alter your hours on your paycheck to put you under 40 hours, assuming that you don't notice, or he will lie about the paycheck company not writing your paycheck and then write you a personal check that does not have the tax taken out and does not have time and a half in it.

Pros

Family Owned small cafe where your voice can make changes. The owner is hands on and expects a lot of his employees but gives opportunities for creative thought. Everyone matters and if you do the work it is noticed, if you don't work it is also noticed. The team members are called Javateers and we get trained to do it all, so one night you might be serving and the next you might be making drinks. The longer you stay the better the chance to get promoted and if you have a fun idea you can get paid to make it happen, like poetry nights, art openings, open mics... Friendly staff, flexible hours, and pride in working to make a great atmosphere for people to enjoy all with a local flavor. I enjoyed working there.

Cons

You start at min. wage, its a cafe job. Not everyone can hack it, its a challenge at times. That leads to some employees getting upset and leaving with a bad taste in their mouth.
