Pros

Diverse work force and knowledge base. Ability to touch every aspect of the components, from clean sheet design thru customer installation (product validation).

Cons

Management. Pay. Reluctance to adapt to the changing environment. Heavy attrition post Ansaldo Energia Acquisition. No succession plans in place. Forces talent to leave when there is no mobility within discipline.

Pros

Some remaining knowledgeable engineering senior talent to refer to. Most older experience people fired with made up reasons so PSM doesn't have to pay severance.

Cons

So many cons post GE purchase of Alstom and Ansaldo as new owners. Massive reorg. done pre Ansaldo purchase to put the " in crowd" in management positions many of which are new young managers that are clueless of how to manage. Many additional levels of management created which is a waste of money and kills company moral. Massive amounts of people have left and continue to leave due to lack of new work, or small R&D funding in the past two years since GE purchase of Alstom as well as small to non existent raises for the rank and file in the past 3 years. All money is kept with the " in crowd" in management. Company is focused mainly on reconditioning work which they lose TONS of money on and can't compete. PSM sinking fast and will continue to lose market share once GE releases all Siemens compatible components to the market place due to inheriting all PSM's Siemens intellectual property and prices PSM out of business.

Pros

There are many brilliant people who work at PSM: PhD's, those with decades of experience, and young guns full of energy who still remember their calculus. The broad commercial offerings of the company create an environment where one can learn something new every day. In my few years at PSM there have been many fun employee gatherings funded and organized by the company.

Cons

Management seems aloof and the organization feels very vertical (many levels of management). That train at the end of the tunnel is a buyout by GE. No doubt there will be a significant reduction in force before it is all over.
