(Dysfunctional) Family Work Environment

Pros

Flexible hours, potential to be a fun work environment, new management seems to be trying to make things better

Cons

It’s hard to know where to begin on this one. The biggest thing is culture and the way employees are treated, closely followed by organization. As with most small businesses, they claim to be “like a family,” but this culture is not implemented whatsoever. Coworkers are nasty to one another, upper management does not effectively listen to the suggestions of those on the ground floor, and there’s a problem with favoritism in this company. Some people get put on a pedestal or given several chances when they really don’t deserve it, and good employees are treated poorly and sometimes even used as scapegoats for any and all issues. By failing to act when an employee is negatively impacting the work environment, you show that you do not care about your good employees. As for organization, there isn’t. Training is very disorganized, resulting in new employees being inadequate and thus affecting future employees, spiraling down in poorly trained staff all around. Very reluctant to give official titles to anyone, so it’s hard to distinguish who’s in charge of what. On that note, they also like to hire outside for higher positions instead of considering people who have worked there for longer and have not only proven themselves, but have more relevant experience than an outside hire. Because of all these issues, there’s a very high turn-around rate; many past employees end up quitting within a year. All in all, there’s a lot of work needed to make a proper work environment for everyone.

Companies (especially small ones) have been under a ton of pressure within the last year... Pinheads has done a wonderful job of keeping payrolls intact. Especially considering the government restrictions, etc. Adjusted unemployment is near 10%... we continue to hire and offer very competitive pay and flexible hours.

Pros

Very fun environment, being part of someone’s experience.

Cons

Management is clueless, they often make promises they cant keep and do not help departments when they need help. You can find them trash talking coworkers instead at the bar top or in the smoke area out back I think everyone was handed a position they have almost no experience in.

Pros

Some good coworkers, flexible hours, good employee discounts, staff parties

Cons

Understaffed, blatant favoritism, expected to do work outside of job description, took advantage of work ethic, poor communication, unreliable management, expected to work multiple positions alone, lack of professionalism, empty promises for advancement, no accountability, unfair evaluations, false sense of hope

Do you feel this is a little harsh given that Covid has caused businesses like this huge hardship over the last year? Many have gone under and some people have lost their life savings. Pinheads did a lot to keep their staff taken care of. Even paying people when it didn’t have to. Government restrictions made it impossible to schedule the personnel hours like they were in 2019. Pinheads welcomes criticism... allowing all ideas to be shared every Wednesday. As an owner, I’m sorry, but Never heard any of this. (Supervisors are invited and occasionally attend) But we will accept this critique and try to adapt and do better. Always improving. That’s what we do.

Good Part Time

Pros

Variable schedule. Upbeat atmosphere. Fun coworkers. Pinheads and Alley's Alehouse is a great place for part time employment or bartenders. The coworkers have fun together and truly make it feel like a family.

Cons

Low pay. Hit or miss management. Full time employment means you give up your weekends completely. With a nearly nonexistent PTO schedule, this means those that need the income biweekly are likely to have a poor work/life balance.

Pros

coworkers are fun, job is pretty chill

Cons

The pay is unimaginably awful at pinheads. Management cant even seem to handle doing the actual job of managing let alone working within their department. If you happen to need a manager then good luck finding them.. Pay raises are only given when you say something, even if you’ve been there long enough to the point where if it were any other establishment, would have made about twice what most at Pinheads make. Managers have good personalities but man do they suck at their job. Scheduling couldn’t be worse, you ask for more hours, they give you less, you ask for less hours, they give you more. Want to take the weekend off? well too bad cause we’re understaffed and managers get butthurt. if you have any dignity, stay clear.
