Pros

Pendleton products are generally quite good, and the discount provided is possibly the only benefit to working for this company

Cons

The company is run by entitled white men with no awareness of how deep the divide between their employees and their own is. Senior management regularly and openly espouse extreme right-wing ideology in the work environment Most lower-level employees are required to do what would be two or more full-time positions in another company, while getting paid significantly less than industry standard. Promotion in the company is strictly based on personal preference, social networking, or shared religious practices. There is nearly no diversity in the corporate office where all decisions are made- there are possibly as many as six non-white people in the entire downtown office of a couple hundred. No person of color will ever rise above entry level. Jobs are created and posted to direct toward specific individuals without consideration of others who may be qualified. Internal applications are regularly "lost" until it's too late to be considered for another role. Human Resources works diligently to cover all abuses and protect any senior management from the consequences of sexist, racist, or overtly politically charged behavior. The body of employees knows that they cannot bring workplace misconduct to HR because they will be exposed, humiliated, and retaliated against. They solicit feedback to improve the company, and when provided with less-than-stellar reviews, they argue with and humiliate the employees instead of trying to learn from it.

Pros

The products that are made in the USA are well made, with a great story and history.

Cons

Corporate office is located in the most dangerous area of Portland. Homeless camps all around the building, expect to walk by human excrement and needles. Building is in horrible condition, not a safe place to work. Company does not match 401K contributions, most of the time they never contribute anything at all. Some years I have never seen a pay raise because I have been told the company is not doing well. Pay is very low, very difficult to advance to be promoted. No diversity in this company, mostly white females work here. Owners are all white male. A lot of dysfunction, argumentative, and hostile work environment. Company will not share an employee organizational chart with employees. Human Resources only support the owners, if you speak up about experiencing racist or sexist comments from a senior manager, don't expect anything to change. Owners of the company try to micromanage the designs, they second guess the designer's expertise and they allow the catalog department (which is still targeted towards an older lady customer) to completely change the products last minute. Expect the owners of the company to attend design meetings and demand that we change the colors or patterns and belittle and berate the designers, then are argumentative when things take too long to complete. Job functions over lap and employees do more than what their job functions require because this is a small company. Don't expect to be compensated for doing extra work, you will not be rewarded. Managers take credit for employee's ideas and work. Don't be fooled by free merchandise, free alcohol, or corporate paid trips. This company will not pay you more. Most managers are inexperienced and put on a pedestal, they can do no wrong according to the owners, which allows managers to behave in ways that are unethical and hostile.

Pros

- Pendleton’s ceiling is higher than 99.5% of retail brands. if they ever get it right, watch out. it feels meaningful to help them move in the right direction. - blanket discount! - you get to learn a lot, if you are curious enough to prod, at a unique 150 year old vertical manufacturing company - friendly and well-meaning family owners - company history so rich they have more content to pull from than your favorite 10 brands combined - there are a few gem employees to build on. when you find them, befriend them and break things together in the face of 300 year old company policy - romance novels in break rooms - every employee is accessible - the people here are generally good - you can get a ton of experience and ownership in your area if you push for it

Cons

- there is no “why” to get behind. outside of your own internal motivation, there is no central heart or cause thats unites employees - stale work environment - lack of progressive thinking, old business systems, slow to adapt to technology changes - this company’s success relies too heavily on brand history. - the brand looks too different, depending on where/how you access it - most departments do a poor job in defining growth opportunities (in pay or in role) -
