Pros
From Summer 2018 until Summer 2019 I was hired as a placement year student from The University of Sussex to work as an Account Assistant at Pembroke and Rye. My placement year was not only exceeded all of my expectations, but actually changed my life.
I benefited massively through the PR skills I learnt and acquired, this includes practical and personal skills such as:
- Press Release writing, tracking, distribution and follow ups
- Pitching feature opportunities and maintaining relationships with journalists
- Tracking circulation figures and feature cuttings
- Activity plans, social media content creation, planning, posting, tracking engagement, event support and planning
- Overreaching media plans, campaign brainstorming and implementation
- Client pitches, creating decks, learning what to do in a pitch and how to pitch correctly and convincingly
- Project managing and logistical planning of events and campaigns
- Tracking company expenses, planning, organising, and administration
I was surprised by the trust my colleagues had in me from day one, the vast range of skills and experiences I was able to get involved with was far beyond my expectations. The confidence I began to gain from day one enabled me to be promoted from Account Assistant to Account Executive in my 6th month.
I think throughout my year at Pembroke and Rye not only did I learn a huge amount in terms of skills, I have learnt so much about myself and working with others. My confidence has grown massively, and my colleagues have helped and guided me so much through this experience, everything I learnt is a credit to them! I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them and I am beyond grateful for such an amazing experience. My now confident and hardworking mindset will enable me to focus on my final year at university and get the 1:1 I really want.
Cons
There are next to no cons in working here in my opinion! The only thing I would say is that as the hours are 9-6 and I was commuting from Sussex I was often tired and didn't have a very good work/life balance. But living in London this wouldn't be a problem at all!
