Pros

A paycheck and experience as a young doctor.

Cons

Very unethical practicing of dentistry of upgrading and deception to have patients do more expensive treatment that is not a covered benefit by their HMO insurance! Its an insurance game that Steve Thorne has invented and reinvented to hide the true form of financially and production driven dentistry. NOT FOR ANY DENTIST FOR LONG TERM!!

PDS Health Response
12y
Pacific Dental Services-supported offices strive to create a patient-centric environment, providing patients with treatment options that best address and resolve the overall state of their oral health. Supported dentists are encouraged to discover the needs, goals, and best-fitting treatment plan for each patient. PDS does not try to influence the dentist’s treatment plan in any way. Each of the PDS-supported offices is staffed with a benefits coordinator to assist patients in making treatment decisions that work with their dental insurance plan and their individual financial needs.

Pros

Not really a pro, but when you are tired of being talked down to, you will have a lot of things to say about how horrible they are to their face. They will even send you a email asking for you to tell them again in writing when you leave.

Cons

1. New leader OMs that don't know anything about Dentistry telling dentist what to do. 2. OM will give discounts to patients without your consent. 3. You will do crowns for $350 4. Doctor will be blamed if there are only 2 patients booked out or if high no show. 5. They teach you to do unethical things. They will tell you to not fix the small cavities so you can crown it later. 6. They engage in questionable business practices. They will charge insurance full price, but cash will be free. 7. You don't get paid for ER visits on cash patients because "it's not like you did any work" 8. They disrespect their doctors 9. If things go well it's because management did a good job. If things go bad it's the doctors fault. 10. Doctor are in charge of things they have no control over. Such as how many patients are seen in a day. I happened to be in a slow office. 11. You can ask people to do things. They say they will, but in the end it doesn't get done. Such as get me a list of patients we referred for implants, so we can follow up with the specialist as many of these patients fall through the cracks. 12. Equipment they have is the lowest grade, cheapest in the industry. High speed don't have LED, they reuse every but, yes even 330 carbide. Always have mechanical problems with something breaking down. 13. Computer system is based off of DOS. Yes from the 80's. Before Windows came around. They are constantly crashing too. 14. You have no doctor office. No privacy. 15. The break room is in the lab, thus breaking OSHA 16. Too much push on CEREC. Some offices consistently run out of composite. 17. They give you the worst equipment to do composites, thus pushing you to do more CEREC. 18. Management plays favorites. 19. You can win a pizza party, but you will never get it. Empty promises. 20. If they don't collect they take it from your production, so it's a lie. You don't get paid on production, it's collections that matter. 21. I can list more, but you get the point. Just save yourself the hazel and don't work here.

Pros

I initially had reservations working for PDS due to the corporate reputation. However, I am so glad I did. PDS has exceeded every expectation I’ve had. As a dentist, I am solely able to focus on my dentistry. I do not have to worry about insurance, hiring/firing employees, marketing, etc. Before PDS, I worked in private practice. My work life balance has vastly improved since switching. Other pros include the amount of free C.E. at my disposable, which is usually very expensive. There is full benefits (medical, vision, 401k, etc) which is unheard of in private practice. I am so happy I took a chance with PDS because it has brought my career to the next level.

Cons

Occasionally open extended hours (7PM) and Saturdays. However, I worked these hours in private practice as well.
