Pros

some people were nice to talk to, not enough to stay at a company for... training academy was very good and i commend the L&D team for working hard to teach us everything.

Cons

the most toxic environment i have worked in, shameful and berating feedback instead of helping us be better employees and improve our work. no care about employees mental wellbeing, only numbers numbers numbers and how much money they can make the company. we dont even have set KPIs, targets and daily numbers to reach were absolutely arbitrary and did not reflect seniority or performance. employees acting like they are on a trading floor, walking around shouting across the room. we work to help people find jobs, but it never felt like anyone cared about the people we were "helping". just how many deals you made a month. lots of shame for tardiness and no flexibility. contract promised a hybrid model but we were given one day from home a week as a 'reward'. never trusted to do my own work. felt watched over constantly and made to feel guilty if any mistake was made.

Pros

- if you can make it 12 months at Opus it will look good on your cv to other recruiters - you won’t be there long

Cons

- contracted hours 38, actual hours minimum of 45 a week - terrible salary compared to other recruiters - they tell you ‘they have the best commission structure’ on the market and this simply isn’t close to being true - they tell you they have a great culture, again this isn’t true. In fact it’s about as far from being true as is possible. Their culture consists of bullying, ridicule and ‘fake fun’. Sure they have the odd team nights or performance lunches but no one goes because they want to. People will go because they’re scared of how it looks if they don’t go. - Opus’ name and reputation is laughable with clients and in the industry. They spam managers’ inboxes to the point of destroying relationships and being barred from working with the client. - they have churned through 40+ consultants in the last 18 months. The culture and atmosphere is toxic, consultants quit or find other jobs on a weekly basis. - their CRM makes life 10x more difficult than it should be - consultants work in fear of not meeting their KPI’s and then being dragged over the coals. This leads to work being done to tick boxes instead of quality work and care being taken. - there is no leadership or people management skills from team leads and especially management. You have what is essentially a handful of consultants that in fairness grew the company but now find themselves in positions of management without having experience or management training. - the tools every recruiter should have as standard are not given to consultants because it would be a waste of money as the risk of consultants leaving before that ‘luxury’ is given is too high - work hours are 8-6 Monday - Friday. Lunch is 1-2. Consultants are treated as children. There is no rook for thought, it’s simply ‘do as we say’. - they take advantage of their ‘corporate might’ when a consultant leaves as they try to scare people into paying back their last 3 months of commission without having any legal grounds to do so. - there is no HR in Sydney. Instead it is located in the UK. Even if it was located in Sydney it would still be useless, they exist solely to stop management and the company being sued.

Pros

Free coffee. That is quite literally the only positive I can think of.

Cons

If you are new to the industry, do not expect to be trained well. You will be given the worst training imaginable (which only lasts a couple of days) and then be expected to go out into the boiler room to make calls to lie to people all day long. You will have no idea what you are doing. You will just be told to lie to people in order to get information from them. The environment is extremely stressful and you will be consistently berated about poor performance. To give you an example, I was told off and made to feel extremely worthless because I completed 7 calls in the morning when I said I was going to complete 10. That may seem an exaggeration but I can assure you it is completely true. You will leave the office at the end of each day completely drained. When I first applied, I was told in the interview that the company offers hybrid working and the working hours are your standard 9am to 5pm. Both of these are untruths. Hybrid working is possible but it is based on your performance. If you hit a certain level of 'deals' or 'sales', you are allowed one day working from home. If you achieve the next level, you are allowed two days. These targets are unobtainable. And the working hours are not 9am to 5pm. You will be expected to arrive at the office before 8am and you will not leave until after 6pm. The language that is used in the office is ridiculous. For months, I heard people shouting every expletive you can think of while the person sitting next to them was in the middle of a call to a 'client' or 'candidate'. The person on the other end of the phone most definitely could hear everything. Extremely unprofessional. I could go on but I hope this is enough to convince you that if you are serious about working in recruitment, there are other agencies out there that are much better. One final point I will mention is about salary. You will be told that while your base salary is very low (I mean very low), you have unlimited potential to make as much money as you want. Please do not believe this.
