I had red flags on this team and my role after Week 1. I was never offered training on my position - instead I was told to “read slides”. I believe to be a good sales asset, you need to understand the ins and outs of how the operations side works (aka what the client experiences). When I asked about learning about different departments within the company so I could understand this better to help me sell better, it was met with “that’s not relevant” or “why do you need to know”. I also was told that as a sales person, I had to work on vacations and holidays as “sales never sleeps” even though the company emphasizes healthy work life balance and unlimited PTO. When I asked my manager to be a backup for when I was OOO, I was told no - it’s my job to handle things when I am OOO. The structure was set up so that the team (meaning myself and my manager) were both selling and it became extremely competitive for leads and sales. When you are competing against your manager, you’re not set up for success a will be in a losing situation constantly. This list goes on and on…and after 3 months of red flag after red flag I resigned knowing that this team dynamic, culture, and leadership style was not conducive of a positive, encouraging work dynamic. It was the worst career jump I have ever made and I forewarn anyone that applies to be in sales to dive deep into the culture, process, and expectations before entering the role.
