Pros

The only positive outcome was that I finally sought therapy for anxiety and depression from the abuse and constant gaslighting I experienced from their CEO. Therapy led to an ADHD diagnosis with medication.. So a win in the end?

Cons

This company is run by a manipulative, sexist, angry CEO. The CEO, Karen Brown's top hits include "I will slit his throat", "Every employee in this company is uneducated" and a recurring personal favorite "These owners are so stupid" - referring of course to the five owning partners. She is possibly the most unprofessional person in the hospitality industry, which is a pretty high bar if you've been around here for a while. One of her signature moves is to micromanage her team so they can no longer think for themselves and get them to carry out her dirty work so they are left looking like the bad guys to the rest of the employees. Gosh this company was so much fun! *insert sarcasm*

CEO is ruining the company

Pros

The pros used to be working for visionaries, an amazing culture and working with amazing people

Cons

The CEO has no clue how to run a hospitality grouo as she has no clue what hospitality is or what it takes to run a restaurant. Within a year (pre covid) she managed to run almost ever manager across every concept out of a job so that she could control who worked in the restaurants and that they would be loyal to her. She did not care or respect the culture that was built up for years and years before her arrival. She took a well respected organization and singlehandedly ruin it. The creative vision is gone and all that’s left is a bunch of “yes people” who will never be able to recreate the magic that One Off once was.

Pros

The only pros of working for OOH were before Karen Browne was hired as the CEO.

Cons

I worked for OOH for 9 years, in various roles, it became easy to move up into any management position after many long-time employees started leaving the hospitality group. cons include: -The company HORRIBLY, I mean, absolutely disgustingly handled caring for their workers during the pandemic, you can read all about it on social media and if you do a quick google search. -a very sexist and manipulative Karen Browne. -Karen Browne, in the height of the pandemic, was quoted as saying to "not worry about the comfort of the employees and just book as many events as the building can handle" most locations were already terribly understaffed, and times were already tough as it is. -Most of the locations are run by white men that have been with the company for over a decade, they band together and refuse to help out, they also complain behind Karen's back, but won't stick up for anyone. -Karen Browne was consistently badgering the events team to just do better and make more money, if your speak out of line, you will be fired. If you ask for a raise, you will be fired, but before you are fired, you will be told that you are doing a terrible job and have been since you started- not my experience, but the experience of several managers and events team. -To save their poor hospitality group, some of the other partners tried to demote Karen, pushing her into a sales position, yet instead, Donnie Madia wouldn't let it happen (they're cousins). Unfortunately, this hospitality group is the most disliked hospitality group in the city of Chicago. Most won't even buy their bread at their local grocery store. We're not putting any more money in the pockets of Karen, Donnie, or Paul. -
