Once a place of great promise, now a minefield full of egos.

Pros

Unlimited vacation time Great place for juniors to learn Cool office space There are still some very decent and talented people left

Cons

Valuable employees are leaving the agency because there is no room to grow. The cliquish mentality and big egos of many "leaders" make for really bad judgement in business. It's also very discouraging to see smart, talented, and hard working people, often being overlooked and taken for granted. During the last round of layoffs it became clear upper management is tactless and clueless.

Pros

There are a lot of nice people and some very hard workers. Vacation time is plentiful, especially recently. Friday they bring in lunches. The new building is pretty nice too.

Cons

The gossip is just the worst. I've literally been on client calls where senior people openly discuss their personal conflicts with staff. If you aren't in with the right crowd you will not excel. That isn't me being paranoid either, that is the comment of VP level people within the company. The 'Content' department is the worst offender of the bunch. Working with them leads to petty arguments, and you will always be the one who suffers. The CEO is regularly used to exact revenge on employees that aren't part of the central clique and who speak too loudly.

Pros

I thought about whether i should do a review. It is difficult to not sound bitter when you want to be honest, but i want to share my truth from my experience and for all the others who are afraid to speak up. If you are considering taking job there, please read and then decide. Met and worked with some really cool and talented people; liberal vacation time policy; a steady flow of snacks, beverages and free lunch Friday. You'll see these comments in just about every review. but they are the ONLY pro's. All the reviews that say otherwise are deliberate -- certain employee's directed to do damage control.

Cons

It's so hard to know where to start, because it is so awful, other than the pro's above. I guess we can start at the top in executive management. The CSO (which is his title, not his expertise) runs the place. If you are not one of his people, he will either ignore you, attack you if you do not agree with him or talk crap behind your back in a meeting or at a party. (he never did any of this to me, so is not bitterness, but disgust). When you read the other reviews on Omelet, and they talk about the 'bullies', he is the leader of the pack. Then there is the CEO. He doesn't have any first hand experience in the business. He is the puppet of the CSO. The CEO will tell you what he thinks you want to hear, does the opposite (the CSO can easily sway him) and then will not take responsibility for his actions. I feel bad for the last left original co-founder of the company. He brings in most of the new biz 'projects' but gets little credit. The CEO and CSO treat him like he is an insect, always shooing him away. He is positive person and helps to keep positive employee moral under the circumstances. There is much much more i could say about, mean-spirited gossip, abuse of power, etc, etc. but it is all so redundant based on all the other reviews. If you are from a 'traditional agency' background (who, BTW Omelet, are wining new AOR clients, and have consistent financial health) this is NOT the place for you. You are jumping from the frying plan in to a bon fire. The stupidity will drive you nuts and you'll kick yourself for drinking the kool-aid and not taking a closer look at what you are about to sign up for. Omelet makes a lot of promises and statements about how they are a different kind of place to work. I think it started out that way, but in the end, the fractured management can't agree on who they are or the company mission. Other than feeling a special connection to some of the people you work with, unless there is a shake up at the top, this place will not survive. In the end, you'll be laid-off because of stupid or irrational business decisions, or have to absorb someone else's job responsibilities, again. Unless a miracle happens, the place will be closed soon.
