Pros

The only pro I can think of is there are some nice people who work there.

Cons

There are so many terrible things about Oktopost, I don’t even know where to begin. I’ll try and highlight the key “cons”. - The sales “management” in the UK is severely lacking and under qualified for the role, with 0 years of prior sales management experience. Yet you are constantly belittled, micromanaged and spoken to like you are stupid, despite having more experience in sales than the person meant to be managing you. This person is unapproachable, argumentative, and holds horribly outdated views which they are very open about. - Senior leadership is absolutely obsessed with tracking every single thing you do in Salesforce. You have to write extensive notes about every single deal/opportunity you’re running, and if you don’t then you will be pestered about it non-stop. There is absolutely no trust between management and their sales teams - even if you’re hitting your targets and out-performing your peers, you are still treated like you’re replaceable. - The CEO talks down to everyone, and said on a Companywide meeting that he’s building a “hire and fire” culture, where they’re basically hiring anybody and firing them quickly if they don’t perform to his ridiculous standards immediately. - There are no benefits included in the package, except one Friday off a month. No income protection, no clear maternity policy, no health insurance, etc. Working at Oktopost completely destroyed my mental health. I woke up every day feeling sick and anxious. When I spoke to my manager and HR about this, they told me it was my problem and I had to change my mindset and approach to better deal with it. I would never, ever recommend this company to anyone who actually enjoys sales and working somewhere with a great culture. After I’d been at the company for 3 months, myself and the person I started with were the most tenured reps in EMEA. The Account Executives were dropping like flies, with a ridiculously high turnover in people.

Pros

Your colleagues will likely be amazing. The product itself is phenomenal. The PTO policy is awesome. That's about where it stops.

Cons

There are no benefits. You have unlimited PTO with a free Friday off per month. That's it. No healthcare, no dental or vision, no paid maternity leave in 2023. They may have existed for others, or they might exist for other offices, but they didn't exist for me or my team. The CEO doesn't know how to be a CEO so he likes to get into the minute details of everything you're doing all the time. If something isn't organized or formatted to his liking, he forms a bad opinion of you. Yes, this includes internal docs. This is not a great workplace for women. There is no representation in leadership, and again, no paid maternity leave for employees. Benefits around that may vary depending on your location, but good luck otherwise. I have not seen a single DEI initiative within the company. I was sold on tons of benefits prior to joining the company, only to learn that 90% of them didn't exist any more. The company actively polices your social accounts. If you have a private social account, don't tell anyone about it. They are big on branding through employee accounts, which is fine. But it gets to the point where if you have an opinion for yourself (that has nothing to do with the company at all), you might catch a call from HR or the CEO himself to ask you about it. The pay is fine. It's not great, it's not terrible, but it's fine. That's provided you get paid on time, anyway. If you bring it up to leadership, the answer is that they'll make up for it in the next pay cheque if something is off. Cool. How should I break the news to my landlord? If you are lucky enough to be invited to a company off-site (because they're not for everyone, apparently) you have to share your hotel room with a colleage. Heads-up, in case you're someone who doesn't wear pyjamas. Good luck if you have to hire someone. They'll micro-manage the process and bring on 8 interviewees and external contractors to evaluate your candidate. There's zero trust in any capacity from leadership towards their employees. All knowledge in the company is under tight supervision. It's impossible to get information for yourself as no meetings are ever recorded. Leadership is paranoid that we'll leak the videos or something. So if a meeting is held and you can't make it, too bad. There's zero transparency whatsoever. So if micro-management, social policing, mediocre pay, and no benefits are your thing, enjoy.

Pros

The product is really solid and there are a lot of "Oktopost champions" that look into getting Oktopost implemented at their new org when they switch companies. This is always a good sign of a strong product that has a lot of value for their customers. Oktopost has a very unique value proposition for B2B marketing and sales leaders. Oktopost has a good team with very intelligent, driven, and caring people. I genuinely believe everyone is committed to the success of the business.

Cons

No matter which way you look at it, this is a start-up. Being in sales at a company at this stage presents a variety of challenges that are unique to a small company. If you are used to a larger organization, or a lot of structure and direction, I believe you may have difficulty here. There were positive changes that were being made in Q3, so I imagine this will improve over time.
